Will a CBE give me any performance gains?

I just purchased a 3inch catback ( srs) and I'm wondering if I will see and performance gains? My 2gb is all stock so I'm curious. Also does anyone have the srs exhaust? If so how does it sound it got great review on subarus but I haven't seen many things about it on dsm so all just wondering
Thanks
Jjay

I don't have and have never heard the exhaust..but yes you will see a small performance gain since the exhaust gasses won't have such a hard time getting out of the tubes. :hellyeah:

It will surely free up some power, but not enough to make much of a difference. Especially if your still using the stock downpipe and cat. Youtube is your friend for checking out exhaust systems. There has got to be 30 videos of DSM's with SRS catback systems. But they do sound very good for the price, easily comparable to the N1.

The cat has got to go, but that's just me.

The SRS catback I beleive is a true 3 inch. Unlike the thermal catback which is flanged for the stock sized cat.I would have got a high flow cat off ebay too.

If money isn't an issue, I would go with the thermal catback. It will bolt up to the stock cat, and they sound great.Theres alot of folks here using the thermal. A cat back is not gonna be a great HP upgrade, but it's definatly better than the stock 2.25 inch piping.

Also if your going to stay semi non modded. Most of us would reccomend going with a 2.5 inch turbo back. It will perform better than a catback, and free up some lost hp, due to the restrictive stock piping.

Add a K&N air filter as well you will some better gas milage as well. Not much but these days saving a few bucks can come in handy.

I also want to see this 98 tsi.I love 2gb talons, and you sir have a more rare 98 awd.If it has the two tone interior, YEAH BUDDY.

YOu'[ll need an upgraded BOV to hold more boost that the cat back will allow you to make...then at that point it's almost like asking "will a turbo make my car faster?" LOL

There's a reason those are the first upgrades, they are a MUST for morepower

Thanks for all the replies I'm staying semi stock ### I think the cars fun already. As for pics il post some and I do have a 2 tone interior :hellyeah:

You have the two tone.Is it auto,I got cash..ROFL

Nah 98 tsi porn will be good enough for me.

Will a 3" catback exhaust be enough to induce boost creep? Don't know how prone the T too small is to creeping. I know the 14b & 16g are both known for it. Its been a long time since I've run low enough boost to really remember boost creep...

2gb Talon, high rise spoiler, and Eagle mudflaps to top it off. :thumb:

glad to know you like the mudflaps ;) i have owned it for about a year now and its a lot of fun i come from the jeep world of lifted and big mud tires so this is a complete 180 so i apologize in advance for all my dumb question i may ask about this car.

From some of the threads I have been reading about that particular exhaust. The buyers seem to like it.

thats good to hear its sounds pretty deep but you never with ebay but quality wise the welds look good the piping is ss so it gives me hope that its gonna sound good

I have an SRS catback, it sounded good when i still had the oem downpipe and cat on as well so you should like it.
Oh p.s. i also have a 98 tsi awd just picked it up a while ago was in a front end collision bringing it back to life. silver/black ext, grey/black int dont have the fancy mudflaps tho!

Nice was it loud? Or deep ### the videos I've seen the sounds all distorted so it really hard to tell. The exhaust looks like and good quality so it gives me hope that it won't sound ricer. And post some pics of your talon :thumb:D

heres some pics for ya :thumb:

Is It weird that, that turned me on.

You can't just stop like that.Let me see the interior please.

Why is it not quoting pictures anymore? Staff, can you answer that?

From what I can tell, it's hard to make these engines sound ricey. I have straight pipes on mine and it still isn't ricey so there you go.

The turbo acts as a muffler which really cuts down the amount of rasp and high pitch tone. In some turbo cars, like the SRT4, there is no muffler right from the factory and they sound great. It's pretty hard to make a good sized turbo engine sound bad.

Man very nice only thing I would do for looks is: lower, twisty sideskirts, done. Also very nice with the sideskirts.

Do you have a muffler on it? I have full 3" from turbo back to the megan muffler wich I believe is 2 1/2", I had the muffler on when I had stock exhaust, had the entire exhaust done in 3" but had to reuse the muffler, was thinking of ditching it alltogether due to possibility of creating back pressure buildup from it bottlenecking to 2.5" at end of exhaust flow. Was thinking of having 3" from turbo to tip, no cat, no muffler, no resonators, just straight flow:thumb: But dont want it to sound farty/raspy.
