Will a full turboback give me a little boost?

I was just wondering (and if this bench racing you can lock it, but i don't see it as bench racing) Did you guys feel a big gain from swapping out your exhaust for your new setup?

I am getting a full 2.5 plus a 2G ported mani for my car soon. Since its 2.5 and not 3($200 cheaper) then will i feel a huge difference?..also if thats not enough im going to get a MBC and set it up at like 13-14ish.

You will feel a pretty big difference, when i added my RNR 3" turbo-back the car was noticeably quicker. You may also creep a little with the 2.5", before i got my 34mm flapper and external dump 02 housing i crept a lot with my 3".

I am also installing an O2 dump :thumb:

the bigger the turbo, the bigger the difference 3 inch exhaust will make

I understand that, but i figured me beeing on the 14b 2.5" is ok. Now when i upgrade to a 50 trim (WAY down the road) i think ill have enough money to dump this one for cheap, and pick up an RNR or soemthing of that sort.(if they're still around then...)

I got a stock td05 a ported exhaust manifold and a external dump o2 housing.
I got a stock dp, stock cat, stock mid section and N1 type exhaust. I want to upgrade my exhaust as well but don't know how big is big enough on stock turbo.
My concern is I was told when going 3'' from turbo back I would loose top end power, and if I go with the 2.5'' when it comes time to upgrade turbo I don't want to go through the hastle of selling one to buy the other.
does it really affect or better performance. Sorry but this tread is the clesest I found for my question. :D

im not going lower than a 3", and since you seem like you'll eventually go to a 3" anyways why not just do it now and save yourself some money and hassle? besides, any turbo will benefit more from a 3"

so is there any truth on the top end power loss cause I do have to ride on the freeway every day and thats where I have most of my fun.

I was always under the impression that a 3" would help your top end more than anything?

ditto :thumb: 3" exhaust is good for any turbo really but it can be too much for 16g's and smaller because it creats lag but will make up for it on top end. If you want quick spool up on 16g or smaller than only go 2.5 and still benifit on top end. If you plan on going bigger in the future then just do the 3" and be done with it. Who ever said bigger exhaust will make you loose your top end needs to get there head out there a$$. Either way you will notice a difference with top end for the better. Just do it right the first time :talon:

so just to clarify if I'm going the 16g route I really don't need anything larger than 2.5" and might actually lose performance (longer spool up times) if i went with a 3"?

I wouldnt say youll loose performance. It will create lag but will make up for it on top end. If you want spool up efficiency then dont go 3". Think bout it this way. What do u have more fun with? On the highway or on the street going from light to light?? :talon:

ok bud. get ready for creep if you get the 3". I have turboback 3" on my talon. Had the stock t-25.. bolted on the exhaust, and wow it pulled harder and sounded great. however-- at the same time, the thing creeped like 4-5psi on me. careful, keep an eye on your boost gauge. I bought a 16g and the thing doesnt seem to creep as much anymore, just 1~2psi. But before it creeped crazy style. You will not lose top end power by going with a bigger exhaust. if anything, you will get more, because the higher the engine rpm the harder it is working the more crap it is kicking out and your bigger exhaust is getting it out of there that much faster. go big or go home as they say, get 3" and make yourself happy :)

longer spool with a 3"? i thought you'd get a faster spool with a 3"? the turbo is able to push out more air because air is leaving at a much faster rate. anyone that has gone from a stock exhaust to a bigger setup will tell you about an increase in their boost levels.

and in all honesty boost creep can be fixed with an electronic boost controller :D

Yep, with a 16g or smaller and 3" exhaust you will get longer spoolup. As for the boost creep, that can be solved by porting the hell out of your turbo and o2 housing or an external wastegate but that is more generally for bigger turbos. You wouldnt have to worry bout that with 2.5" and it would save you some money :thumb: As i said b4 if your future plans include a bigger turbo just do the 3" and be done with it :talon:

I would go 3" but i don't have an extra $200 on me...also i won't be going any bigger than a 16G for atleast a year or two, so ill wait on the 3". also ill have a O2 dump for people who can't read and keep mentioning boost creap to me.
