Will a 90 tranny fit a 92

Shifter cables, base inside the car, and all the brackets are different. Output shaft is also different so it would need to either be changed or you'd also have to use the '90 t-case.

Found some more info when all I did was type your title into the search function on this site:

On a AWD you'll have to swap the trans, transfercase, and rear diff to change transmission types because of the difference in gear ratios.

You'll also have to make sure that the transfer case matches the transmission since there are differences in the spline count between the 90 and 91+.

The front axle diameter changed in 93 and the transmission has to match the axles.

The rear diff and rear axles changed in mid 92 to a stronger version called the 4 bolt, if you get one you'll also need the axles and hub flanges for the rear wheels.

You do not have the change the rear diff. Rear diff ratio change is for 5spd vs auto only. Axles did not change size in 93 for AWD, that was for FWD only. Shifter, cables, tcase spline count, all different. Internals are different also if you ever need to go in there. Functionally it's the same.

If you have a early 92 AWD 5 speed, check trans id numbers. You should have the HD 3/4 gear set. It is the best of the stock transmissions. rebuild it.
