Ok, last night i was driving home and was getting on it pretty hard. My car was running about 15 psi of boost just fine. i got on it twice and after that i just crusied back to town without boosting. when i got to a stoplight and started going again the car started making a wierd whining noise, (not like a turbo spooling noise). It also wasnt boosting right.

What would happen is if i was on the gas really hard the boost would still go up but i didnt stay on it because i was just trying to see what was acting up. If i was gassing it just enough to have it be building boost it would stall really bad at 5psi and not go over. I got worried and pulled over to see what was wrong.

When i stopedd i noticed that the intercooler was cool to the touch. I also noticed that there was fresh oil on top of the valve cover. all the intercooler lines seemed to be nice and secure. I began to limp the car home (like 10 miles) and it would whine really bad. I think all this togather probably means my turbo is gone but im asking here to be sure. when i get a chance im gonna pull off the intake pipe and take a lool at the wheel.

Any other suggestions? edit: the oil is very low.

Do you have an EGT Gauge or even a shitty A/F Guage. I'm asking because im wondering if you leaned out? That would be helpful...

How was the oil real low? Is it because it leaked out of the engine somewhere after that happened or is it because you dont check your oil often? These motors love oil and need to be taken care of and watched over very well.

I dont understand why there would be oil all of a sudden on the valve cover unless some gaskets or seals blew out, and even in that case, i wouldn't understand why it ended up on top of the valve cover.

I did think into it though....

Since there is oil on your valve cover, take ur plug wires out and look down into the plug wells and see if there is alot of oil down there. You might be lucky and get away with oil down there. In that case stick some tisues down there or napkins and soak everything up, and then replace your plugs.
If there isnt any oil down there, take your plugs out and inspect them...look for,
1. Oil
2. Melted Plugs
3. Leaning out signs (white)

Also is your car smoking now out of the exhaust, blue or white?

Get back to us on the fix you might have found already for it. I am very interested to see what it is.

Last thing, those pictures, is that a relfection off of the oil or is that the color. And whic in that case, if the color is milky. Kiss your head gasket goooooodbye. Its not all that bad, now you should rebuild the head if thats it.

cheers

ok...

1. I doubt the oil on the valvecover and what is wrong are related. When I look at the pic, I see gasket maker. 80% of the time I see that stufff on a valve cover, it is cause someone tried to use an old gasket or, make their own. It is a very temporary fix. You need to use a new gasket. Chances are, someone did that before you got the car. You may have just not noticed it before. Looks to me like it has been there a while

2. Sounds like the turbo went, pull off the intake pipe and see if the compressor wheeel has made any contact with the housing.

If needed I will go look at it.. keep me updated

yea i checked the turbo and it seems fine (but i could be wrong, just nothing major i noticed wrong).

anyone else have ideas?

After putting the JDM motor in I had kinda the same issue with the oil ... make sure the vent line to the intake coming out of the valve cover is hooked up, also replace the pcv valve and make sure the hose is good. I made a dipstick hold down outta a scrap piece of metal and a hose clamp so the dern dipstick wouldnt pop out anymore ... I run the crap outta my car and its never cool to have your car smokin outta the hood after a good lil run. fixing these three things took care of mine ... now to figure out how to clean all the oil up I sprayed around the engine bay and undercarrige ...

i had a similar issue with the oil on the valve cover... mine cracked after i turned up the boost, and forgot to put a new pcv in. these valve covers are know for cracking around the bolts. you may want to check that also.
