Why two dog boxes? Because race car

Quick summary:

• Fifth gear broke in Par dog box.
• Installed fifth gear delete
• Drove car around the block, roll pin broke in dog box
• Bent the rods, cracked 2nd gear in the dog box and twisted the input shaft
• New motor installed - went to Eagle rods, built the head, added Kelford 280 cams
• Been waiting five weeks for Par to make me new internals
• Sick of waiting so I sent Shepherd an empty case to build me a PPG dog box

Guess I'll use the Par as a spare tranny if needed. Hope to be back at the track racing in a few weeks!

I want one tooo! Whats the price on the PAR and PPG gear sets. I could probably get away with a faceplated set at my power levels, but..I want I want!

I'm not sure who uses PAR anymore. My original dog box is an old, old PAR version. Shep does PPG now, but was able to get me PAR parts to put the one back together.

Yeah I better love it.. I'm done with the synchro transmissions, I'm getting my shep S4 rebuilt on the friday of the shootout, for the last time, (this makes #3) of needing rebuilt! Plus no way will I go auto!

If those dog boxes are anything like the transmission in my friends evo, they sure are annoying for a daily driver. Excellent for a race car though.
