why is my 1990 gs turbo running so hot?

i just bought a 1990 eclipse gs turbo noticed it was running hot so checked under hood found a coolant leak in upper hose so i replaced the hose and bleed the cooling system and was running fine for a few hours but after sitting over night and driving to work only a couple miles away i saw it was running hot again, i dont know much about turbos so any feed back would be great

A few things to check:
- do the fans come on?
- some times it takes a while to get the air out of the system
- is the thermostat functioning? Dip it in boiling water, you shcould see it open up.
- warm up the engine with the fill cap off. You should see coolant flowing.

yes the fans come on, and i havnt replaced the thermostat yet i beleive that is it i was working on my launches last night and everytime i romp on it the temp gauge rockets to hot and as soon as im off the gas it slowly creeps back down, is there any really dos and donts of running a turbo cause i came from the honda scene and have never had a turbo car i do have a timer to allow for the 30 secend cool down befor the car shuts off

ever think on a blown HG, or shot water pump? Any restriction, like license plate, body kits, et.al. , for the air flow since the only way for the radiator to get air is through the lower valance?

no restrictions all stock and i checked that and when i ought it i drove 50 miles on the highway and it had no probs, also forgot to post it has trouble every now and then wanting to go into 1st and 3rd gear, andy sollutions

The SHIFT linkage, which is above the SELECT on the tranny might be hitting on something - got an IC piping in the way?

I bet you got a popped head gasket that's allowing exh gases into the coolant section...or a dead Radiator cap...hopefully the latter...

ya i think it is the cap ecause last night i tor apart the ic piping to clean and get oil out, and had my rediator cap off for a while then put it back on looked at it about 5 min later and there was a little puddle on top of the cap, so will replace the cap also i found a big solid plastic shield thingy behind the light bar and i took it out and that helped ALOT with the temp

ok the cooling problem is fixed, who would of thought that if the bottom half of a thermostat is busted into three pieces it wont open. weird, but im still gonna replace the head gasket here soon, because after looking for leaks it didnt look to be in the best shape
