why does my 2g surge?

i got a 98 gst and its blowing cupplers? everything is tight on the intercooler i just cant figure out whats wrong? ALSO it surges?

Unplug your ISC, if it continues to surge then that's not the issue if it does not surge then replace it.

More times than not, the isc is faulty. Common mitsubishi issue.

If the problem persists check all your sensors near the throttle body, leaks, unplug sensors, etc. Easiest way to go about it is just blocking off all of those sensors.

thanks man ill check that out!.. and as for the intercooler piping blowing off? someone said my waste gate might be bad? but that made no sense to me, or i need better clamps? thanks again

It really depends, if it's your factory piping then yes; possibly the clamps are not holding the pressure properly.

If it's aftermarket then the bead may be too small on the pipe itself or there is no bead at all, your clamps may also not be able to hold the applied pressure, or your couplers are poor quality and are flexing too much allowing the piping to wiggle loose. For couplers, I would recomend something with a higher ply to avoid that issue.

If by wastegate he meant the car is producing a higher amount of boost, then yes that may cause that to happen; but even stock intercooler piping shouldn't be an issue. My evo is making close to 24lbs of boost on the stock upper intercooler piping with no issues. I would just make sure the couplers and piping are installed correctly, then apply a boost leak tester. Doing so will allow you to use a trial and error process to figure why the intercooler piping is loosing pressure and breaking loose.

A simple fis I have found to work every time I have a throttle bodi issue/idol serge once all other leaks have been fixed is to pull the throttle bodie off knock out the freeze plug and screw the fiav all the way closed replace the freeze plug put throttle Boise back on and no more serg.

Doing this will not allow the car to have high idol when it starts but has no other I'll efffect
