Why Did You Buy A DSM???

I think it's cause I'm lazy and slow to change. My mom "gave" me the car in '90's. She had a lot of money for a little while back then, and she was buying new cars for my sister and giving my brother down-payments for things like an Audi S4... I didn't like it a lot at first, my first car was a VW beetle. A little different. It grew on me a lot. It left me on the side of the road once. That happened to be in rural Arkansas at 3 am. But I wasn't late to the concert in NO that I was heading to the next night! It let me fix it in an autozone parking lot the next morning after a $140 tow. that was 10 years ago, I'm old. This car and I just ended up together, and we'll stay together. Finally got the title a couple of years ago, mostly just so my dad and sister know I'm not kidding when I say I'm gonna call the cops on them if they get to thinking that it still belongs to them. Maybe some kind of fire would seperate us, but then I'd have to find another one. All these years of learning how these things fit together can't just go to waste.
Then there's the fact that girls still tell me how cool it is: I could say"This old POS FWD N/T 200,000 mi hand-me-down with-paint-falling-off that doubled in value last time I put new tires on it" But I don't say that.
Finally, I get a real kick out of my test-drive laps around the factory after I finnish whatever work I'd just finnished doing to it.

I was working at a Mitsubishi dealership as a tech I drove one on a test drive and fell in love with the turbo feeling, then I just had to buy one and I'm on my 2nd one now.

I bought mine with the fast and the furious notion that I would f-this car up and ricer it beyond rice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 Thank God for all you wonderful dsm owners who flamed the living crap out of me and showed me what it was to be a dsm owner or that paul walker body kit would be sitting on my car right now !!

Bought my first back DSM in high school, a 1ga n/t. I just liked how the car looked and couldn't afford a 2g back then. Flash forward about 12 years and I bought my current one cause I remember how much I loved that old car and always wanted to try the turbo version.

I have a feeling this will be my future.
I'm 16, and a junior in highschool...
With a 1g....NT....
ROFL

I have souped up a lot of motors in my life. Seemed like the 4g63 was popular so I thought I do one.
Now I wish I had done a Honda. What is so great about a 4g63?

The fast and the furious got me hooked. I first wanted a supra because I loved the orange supra in the movie, but I quickly realized that a supra was a lot more expensive than I thought. Then I figured I would go for something cheaper and a dsm fit my budget pretty well, and it was still one of the cars from the movie. LOL

I took a liking to my friend's 2G GSX, but I had my eye out for a 1G because I like the body style more. And I waited to find the perfect one that I was looking for. Then I found my 1G on a local racing forum for $1200. Just what I wanted. Black. Black leather. Pop up roof. Rims. And last but not least AWD. It'll be a project till the day I sell it.

Long (bored so read on)!

Well....my dsm days started way back in 91 when my mother bought an electric blue gst auto. After going on a few "joy" rides, I fell in love and vowed to one day own such a beautiful car.

Skip forward to 2003 when I bought my first 1g, a 93 N/T (1300$). Injen intake, pacesetter headers and exhaust...man I thought she was quick. Vowed to make her into a show car....ended up selling to a friend.

That same year (just a few months later) I bought a 96 GS (2300$) which became my daily driver. AEM intake, msd coil and wires and exhaust.

Just a few months after that I bought my first turbo dsm, a 90 gst (700). Man I thought I was da 'ish! Went straight to the local performance shop and spent close to a grand putting on gauges, mbc, intake and 3 inch exhaust. Slapped on some 5zigen fighters and speed home to clean up and ride with my crew. Being in a rush, I let some alley mechanic slap on some brakes for me for 30 bucks...30 mins later I almost lose my life cause he didn't put the caliper bolts back in all the way and I couldn't stop from my burnout! Lesson learned.

The next year I found my current dsm, the 92 talon tsi for 400 bucks! The guy didn't know what he had! With no starter nor exhaust I talked him down to damn near nothing. Push started the car made it home with no problem. Bolted up an exhaust and other minor parts I had lying around the garage and set the boost to 15psi. A month later the engine went due to a faulty oil filter. She sat for 8 months for sale...and when someone offered to buy her at my price, I decide to drop a engine in her.

So all in all I can't get enough of my dsm's! I didn't include the numerous parts cars that I've bought or the fact that the GS was side swipped and I now own a 96 ESI (same colors). I think I'm on number 7....maybe I'll grab that 2g turbo this winter as I've been itching for one. Other then that, my mother still owns an eclipse (01 gs) and my brother just bought a 4g (08). Gotta love dem diamonds!

everything about a dsm draws me in.. mostly 2g's, sweet looks for a car thats not too expensive and it amazes me how much power you can extract from a 4g63.. i drive my gst everyday and am not jealous of any fancy car because i can either beat it or beat it with a couple more bucks!

Decent gas mileage, easy go-fast bolt-on mods, AWD, easy and small to park, cheaper to insure. Cheap (used, old). Just damn fun to drive. Great support community.

A couple friends got me into DSM. jrohner some of you may know I think my other friend has an account here but doesn't use it.

Either way I fell in love with the 1g DSM's interior (2g's just don't cut it for me on the inside) and the exterior (it gets REALLY tiring to hear Fast'n'furious references every time you talk to someone about a 2g eclipse, plus 1g's are a lot stealthier) and price/tunability all at the same time. It's fun to say I have a Laser and get blank looks from people, plus even for people who know what a Laser is or recognize the DSM look, they still think I have the base N/A model because I have and RS which in Eclipse terms is junk ROFL. Also stock my Laser has no excess bodywork (sideskirts/spoiler/etc) so it really is pretty tame looking.

Since a couple days ago I've been thinking of getting into drag racing maybe a little, as it seems pretty cheap (for now) and I can have fun at the drag strip with whatever setup I choose. I'ma go look up some tips on FWD launches... dang it's hard to get used to.

See ya around.:laser:

This is my 3rd DSM. I have always owned Audi's and loved them still to the day. but a buddy sold me a 90 laser turbo roach drove it for a while and found a 90 tsi awd that had a bad ecu picked it up for 500 and blew it up a year later then bought my 91 done quite a bit of work on it but im ready this time to do it right and go fast the right way. Here in a year or two its going to be my slow car once I find the 951 turbo that I want.

um... i bought mine cause it was cheap?
It all started back in highschool(2005)
Well before my DSM i owned a 1988 Chevy S-10 Blazer and a (*MINT**PRISTINE**SHOWROOM CONDITON*) 1989 Chrysler New Yorker Landau(fricken pimpin machine)

It took me about 1 1/2 years to make up my mind. My teacher was trying to pawn the dang thing off on me.Lol Well here i am driving a 1991 Eagle Talon AWD tsi.

I was pissed, i didn't even get coolest junker for senior year. This ### ass, rusty, smashed up, on steel rims honda civic got coolest junker. WTF!!:beatentodeath:

I guess it was the word Turbo and AWD that got me drawn to DSM's.

I bought mine because I fell in love with the car. I seeked 2 years for a car and more than 1 year for the perfect Eclipse... It is really one of the all time sexiest cars...

i always liked the shape of the 2g eclipse.

and the performance you can get with a few upgrades and a little coin made the dsm turbo a perfect choice for me.

I bought my first 1G a few years ago and it snapped the T-belt on the drive home. Its okay because I bought it for 500 and sold it for 500. My next would be another 1G 1991 Eagle talon TSI AWD very clean silver with only 75,000 for 3.5K, 4 years later it only had 86,000 on it LOL. That was my dd for a while then I wanted to build it so I started saving up lots of money and found another 1G 1990 eclipse gsx auto that was fully build so I bought it and have been racing it since. The new eclipse isn't a great dd but a fun and amazing weekend warrior. Nothing like hitting mid 10's on a car that will do that set-up exactly on the street. SRT-4 want to race and I just laugh, I got laughs at bikes when I tried to do a pull till I hit 29PSI and left them.

I like DSM's because unless you know about them they are true sleepers. I think they are sex on wheels and everytime I hit boost I get the best feeling ever and love it.

I had a 3000GT base model at the time and was just browsing autotrader.com to see what was out there. I ended up clicking a link of a black 2gb talon for sale at a JEEP dealership down the road from me. The first picture was a low-to-the-ground front shot of the car with some grass in the front and the dealer in the back. I literally remember going "yup, i'm gonna own a car like that one day". I listed my 3000GT for sale that day and sold it in two weeks for my asking price ($7500OMG!). Coincidentally later that school year (was 16 at the time) a friend's friend told me he had a 97tsi for sale for $7k. I went for a test drive and felt the instant pull in 1st with the t25 and was hooked ever since. :)

i loved the look of paul walkers eclipse. ever since then ive been in love with them. im hoping to save some money and buy a 99 GSX and swap in an evo motor, make it go zoom-zoom the DSM way:sneaky:

good luck with that:confused:

A friend had one and at the time, if it didn't have a v8 I didn't like it (haha that was a long time ago, don't give me a hard time!) I learned a lot about them and he let me drive his and since then I've been hooked. I'd rather have his 93 rx7, but that's more expensive. Got to love the awd though.
