why cant 2g carrier bearings be filled?

Im getting the usual driveshaft thump under accel, My carrier bearings are still intact and ok but they have more play than id like. why cant i just fill in the gap around the middle and sides with silicone ? i know some may drip out but i can make a temp barrier with aluminum foil to hold the silicone in while it dries. wouldnt this work to absorb some movement? Its got a big U shape inside the bearing. i was thinking of just filling in the U with silicone

Who says they can't? People do it all the time. Just have to make sure it dries straight or you will have it be uneven and wobble.

yeah you can fill it, go to a parts store an get window bond or something alike its for installing windshield and it will work a lot better than silicone.

Because some people fill them and it becomes uneven. Completely making the issue worse then if they were to leave it alone.

What does it matter with all this 'uneven' talk? All that matters is the slop is taken up, it will in no way effect driveline vibration etc. As long as the 'thump' is gone that's all that matters.

ya i went ahead and filled them . seems to be ok. now i did notice my rear diff bushing is about toast so i guess i need one of those now
