I'd like to know who all is running stock rods and pistons to acheive 400whp and/or 11's ? And how long has it been running like that? thanks

I made over 400whp and almost went 11's. Head Gasket let go after almost two full years abuse however I only do 8000km per year (6000 miles) so realistically it lasted 12000 miles before I needed a head gasket.

Chose to do a 6 bolt instead however could have simply done a head gasket and kept going if I felt like it.

Over 400whp you should have no doubt gone 11's, but i made about 330whp last year, daily driving/daily beating the car and did extremely low 12's with no problems. Ill be around the 400whp mark on pump this year and dont forsee any problems as long as i am careful to watch for detonation.

I was near the 380whp with my 1g before the balance shaft bearing screwed me over

485hp on stock bottom, head has new valves, spring, and retainers.
Running 25-31 psi on this motor for about 6k miles now.
Only reason head has been worked on was because I took the car
to a rally-x event ripped my coolant line at the oil cooler off and
that took out the headgasket.

The motor has 108000 miles on it now. :thumb:

jim, i'm not sure if you did the 400whp on pump or racegas. Did u do any racegas runs and are keeping the times from us?

I went 12.1 @ 113 mph on pump gas 22psi, that was around 375ish mark. I hurt the head gasket that event on one of my last runs. I think I had a bit of detonation or something anyway after that it lost compression by about 10psi in all the cylinders oddly enough.

Next event I went back with C14 and 26psi of boost. The car went 116mph as a best mph but never beat the 12.1 time (well went 12.13 instead of 12.17 or whatever it was). I honestly don't know if that power level was over 400whp but to move 3140 race weight down at 116 mph it was definately there or better.

Of course I ran the race gas without doing a head gasket, I just turned up the boost 4psi as a bandaid to the problem. ;)

wow, i never thought of such a huge difference from 1g's and 2g's based on power difference. My friend with a 90 tsi awd ran 12.3 @ 113 with an evoIII16g at 22psi with racegas of course. Car was at about 300whp. Stock cams and stock intake mani.

I can vouch for this man, I saw the dynbo run

Hey ITSME4G63. I'm going for 500 some time soon found out why I couldn't boost
any higher, the good old Blitz bov wasn't holding boost. Got a new Tial, now I just need
to get the new flange welded on. I still have $150 worth of dyno time at AMS from the
dyno shoot out last year. :thumb:

Do you think that a 6-bolt with a 1g/2g combo will hold up to this? http://www.bullseye-power.com/product_info.php?cPath=37&products_id=59
I'll be tuning with the DSMlink, and not running anymore than 25lbs. Traction. LOL!

THATS awesome, I hope you will be able to achieve better trap times than the ones in your profile with that much power. :thumb:

So I'm getting ready to build up this block thats been sittin in my garage for the last year. I was wanting to just go with 95 cr pistons but it's like $300 for new pistons and the machine labor to press onto the stock big 1g rods,so I am going to go on and spend another $100 and get a set of wiseco's. I will be shooting for 400whp on pump gas with a agp rs49t. Should I go with 8:3 or 9:1 cr, I will only be able to get 93 at the pump in my area? Is the 9:1 too high to run big boost on pump w/o detnation?

Actually 375 seems high. I did 12.3@112 on pump, stock intake mani, stock cams, 1.86 60fts. I woulda assumed around 330whp. With the weight of his car etc id assume more around 335-350WHP. Would be 400+ at the crank tho.

What kind of driving are you into? Drag or auto-x, etc?
Have you considered alky. injection?
I personally would go with 8.3 or 8.5 comp. If it was for drag racing.

It will be my weekend domestic killer. I would only take it to the track to see where it was at performance wise,no auto x-ing. I'd prefer to have the power be reliable and not have to be adding stuff and tinkering with it alot. So I guess I'd be better off with the 8:3's I didn't see anyone selling them in 8:5's though. thanks for all the info guys

for a weekend warrior only making 400whp i dont think id bother to touch the block unless you blew it up...

Dude, a 2.0 NT motor would probibly handle that turbo.

Yugo's were a cheap alternative to more expensive cars at one time. Look at where the company and their cars are all at now.

I would go with the 8.3:1 CR, and as far as gas went if its only going to be a weekend car, you could always make the trip to 63rd and Western and get some 101 at the pump or go to Red Rock and either full up there or buy a 54 gallon barrel of 101-116 octane(which is what im going to do) the 101 is $186.00 which turns out to be less then what you have to pay at the pump for it. just a suggestion to help you get to your goals.

I wouldn't touch the block but I bought it w/ a blown HG and it was dissassembled. I don't know the condition of the pistons.I would have loved to have found a whole running long block and I'd just throw it in the car w/ a cometic hg and be done with it. I have searched all over and have not found any local complete running longblocks. Anybody have one around texas, kansas,or arkansas lemme know.

Use a Mitsu MLS gasket with copper spray and if possible have the block o-ringed, if not the block then the head. MLS with copper O-ring block is bullet-proof. We've made 800+ whp and rarely have HG problems. We've had much better luck with that setup than Cometic.

I pulled 116.8mph as my best mph so it's gotta be in that area somewhere at least. Unfortunately that MPH didn't turn into a descent ET for whatever reason. Seems like all the moons must align before everything comes to gether and your fastest run appears...
