looking to get my engine build and want to know who is recommended for builds out of these 3 shops.

1. SBR
2. Jackson Auto Machine
3. Strictly Import Motorsports

I got similar quotes from all of them, just alittle over 2k for the machining, Manley pistons and rods, with my crank

I have never used any of those but of the ones you mentioned I would go with JAM. What about Buschur? That's probably who I would go with.

well I took everything apart but I'm just worried about the piston rings and clearances on things. I don't know how to check them.

well then if your not sure then (DONT DO IT) its better to try and start learning new things but if you are really unsure then id suggest taking it to someone that knows their stuff..!!!

ALOT OF READING WOULD HELP... ALSO PATIENCE AND TAKING IT SLOW AND NOT TO MENTION GOING THROUGH EVERYTHING TWICE...!!! IF NOT MULTIPLE TIMES...!!!

if u have a manual (haynes or chiltons) it tells you exactly how to rebuild a motor and the specs for everything

I built a motor when i was 17 and now again when im 21. Not very hard at all but then again anything mechanical just makes sense to me. If you have a service manual its not to hard. The first motor i built in 06 is still running. The hardest part is probably doing the timing.

Oh and make sure you keep everything clean. Dirt and contaminants are the main causes for a fresh motor to die early.

SIM would be the last place I would have my engine built. There are several shops that will build your engine...I'm sure there are several in your area that have tons of experience with 4g63s. Ask around man you will find someone.

Stay away from JAM, and before anyone asks I've had a motor built by them and I'm still sayin' STAY AWAY! My personal recommendation would be to have your motor built by Apex Auto Machine. Apex does most if not all of the machine work for AMS and Sound Performance, and if you don't know who those guys are you shouldn't be modding your car :)

My .02c

Really.., myself and very good friend had a great experience with them.

Have you tried local shops, or within the same state, like concept illusion. It'll save you on shipping and taxes.

I to will be asking this when time comes to rebuild my 420a. Since, I'm from Stark area, in Ohio. There's so many shop around me its hard to choose.

I don't own turbo car but one day I will. From the three you mentioned and from the reading reviews etc... I've doing since last I signed in.

I would have to choose Strictly motors, for the engine rebuild. One for reviews I've read about them. Two, location not too far from Me plus I can visit my family up there show off the motor to my brother inlaw's big block buddies. :D

But, I would have the transmission rebuilt by Jackson. There's been alot of great reviews of the company.

If you could have both engine and tranny rebuilt at the same place/time. That would save you extra down time, they'l both sent back around the time. Not sure if Jackson would give you/anyone a small discount for having both done but It would awesome if they would, upon request.

I am going to build my next engine myself only taking it to a machine shop for boring and honing. Most of the shops do not have much of a warranty on their motors for they are consider performance engines. If you have an issue you have to ship it back out of your pocket. I would rather save the labor and shipping and do it myself.

However I will not port my own head too much involved I bought a stage 4 Slowboy head before they moved from PA to FL.

Why would SIM be the last place you would have build your engine? Have you had bad experience with them? I am sponsored by SIM and have never heard of anything bad about our builds. To the OP, give Allen a call and he will work out a good price.
