Langley,
I wanted to know if I should take my 93 Laser to the Chrysler dealership to get the Timing and Balance Shaft belt job done or can I just take it to a regular shop? The dealers may have more experience on our cars but may be more expensive, right?

My car also has 220,000km's on it so I should replace the water pump, idler pulley, timing pulley, etc. and all that at the same time, right?

Have all of those replaced with it at the same time yes.
You can bring it to a mitsu/eagle/or chrysler dealer.
Any of the following would be fine.

Check vfaq.com under "engine" to see for the timing belt checklist.

Do you think we can get a list for the 2G Timing Belt replacement.

Part Numbers that is.

Thanks if someone has a link. :)

Does he have the same engine as us?
If so, I have all of the part numbers on my invoice....

Can you post them on here.

All of the part numbers for a 2G turbo timing belt replacement part numbers.

I had my '93 done at an independant shop. It is perfect.

My '95 had been done by a Mitsu dealer, before I got it at 66K. I'm certain the balance shaft is out of phase, and an internal connection at the AC pump had been torn out. They also managed to hole the radiator, so that's new, too.

Guess who I'd go to next time.

Do you have an experienced DSM mechanic in the area that would be willing to do a timing belt job with you? I would hate to tell you to go to a dealer or a shop... what are you learning?

Like someone mentioned before, there is a few great VFAQ's out there on how to do a timing belt that will walk you through every step of the process.

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-1G.html (there wasn't one for a 1G N/T)

If you are going to be doing the timing belt, you should replace the water pump and the tensioner pulleys while you are at it. There is a good chance that the pulleys are shot, especially if it hasn't been replaced in a while. It's called preventative maintenance Lack of preventative maintenance is why DSM’s have such a bad rep for breaking...

I was thinking of taking it to my mechanic, but he specializes in Volvo's so I don't know. Then maybe I'll take it to Budget or somewhere that does it. Thanks for the help.

maybe you should post on the regional boards and find someone in your area who can do it for you. that way you know its a real DSMer and not just some random mechanic, and you learn about your car and it would be cheaper :thumb:
