Should i replace the whole engine?

I have a 93 gst and the engine has a little over 200 thousand miles on it. It still pulls, but the tranny blew i was thinking about upgradeing the head. Will a 2g head fit direct with it? Also should i just replace the head or should i just replace the whole engine????
 
Well, a 2g head is engineered better, so if you get a 2g head, just get it ported and it will flow very nicely. If you don't want to port, get a 1g head, flows better compared to stock 2g...

Check your compression, why spend money if you don't need to? Unless you are planning on lots of power down the road... Build for the future.
 
If you do decide to rebuild the engine than keep the 1g head. Just rebuild what you have with some upgraded parts thrown in.
 
Overall it really depends on what you plan to do with the car, and how much money you want to spend.

If you're wanting to make it a track demon, then yes I'd recommend you put a new motor in it. A stroker will get you very good power and let you strap on a larger turbo with less lag than a 2.0 variant.

A built 2.0 is probably going to be a bit more reliable if you're going to be using it as a daily driver though, so this is also something to consider. Also it's less expensive than the stroker.

If you're just going to use it mainly as a DD, but want some added assurance that you're not going to blow the engine up by plopping in a new turbo and turning the boost up some, then I'd recommend just going with an engine rebuild. This would likely cost you the least.
