Well i just purchased a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse 1.8 MT

the car was had a rebuilt motor and it blew up so im getting it fixed. i was wondering any advice to keep it from blowing up again

also since i am getting a overhaul what all should i replace that would just be good to do. i dont not know when any mechanical things under engine where replaced also before motor blew i had bad gas mileage for the 1.8

so just pesky little cheap things that should just be replaced

any thing major since engine is out

and pumps sensors

anything LET ME KNOW

just really want to avoid any future problems any avice as this is my first dsm and would love to make it last

precisely what (or how did it) blow up? more info please.

who is fixing it and what are they fixing? more importantly, can you pay for the total repair and still have $ to tune and mod? equally important, will the repair shop guarantee their work?

if you are rebuilding the motor... the pesky things should be addressed or they'll come back to bite you. also going cheap may not be a good idea unless you know what you are doing (or are working with someone who does and you trust them).

before more advice, research archives on this and other foums and read, read, read. then read some more and again.

consider a 2.0 4g63t conversion (i know too many that wish they did from the get go). definitely get new motor gasket set and all other maintenance parts. if you are unsure of the clutch, go with a new PP/disk/TO bearing. For the motor consider new water pump, new front case with oil pump/gear, and possibly eliminate the balance shafts. If you are unsure about timing consider new TB and related parts. get a valve job when you have the head freshened up. changing the knock sensor would not be a bad idea.

while the motor is out, replace hoses (worn or not), worn connectors or stripped/exposed wires. tighten/torque down nuts/bolts that may be loose. replace motor and tranny mounts with fresh units (worn or not). on the suspension side replace bushings, worn tie rods, etc. replace worn CV boots, worn axles, definitely use fresh fluids.

good luck.

thanks alot.....

also it had a weird high idle

i was just cruising at about 35 and a horrible knocking started.........

have it by a really good mechanic just getting ideas for replacement items

on the wierd high idle, more info is needed? have to tried adjusting the BIS screw? is it constant or does it fluctuate? does it eventually settle at a lower consistent value? is it throwing a check engine light (CEL)?
