Should I replace the head gasket?

I have a blown motor, so I just bought one from Japan with much lower mileage. But since the motor's already out, I'm replacing all the belts (including timing), water pump, plugs and wires. I want to replace the head gasket to a 4-layer head gasket that's almost twice as thick as the OEM one. (I just want to be safe ### I blew a head gasket for my old motor.) The only thing is that I'm afraid it'll cost hella money to for labor (I'm already getting the timing belt and water pump installed). Would it be worth it to replace the head gasket?

It depends what your ultimate goals are as far as power levels. If your planning on running boost into the low 20's or higher then it might be a good idea to take advantage of the situation and get it done now. Although the stock composite HG when used with ARP head studs will hold quite well and be sufficient for most street setups. With a stock gasket you won't need to machine the head or block surfaces either.

If funds are tight you can also consider replacing the bolts with the ARP's. No need to remove head or replace gasket. Just one more option.

Hmmm...I'm just might take your advice and consider the ARP head studs. What exactly do the ARP head studs do though? I'm not planning to boost around 20+ so I guess I'll just stick with the one that comes with the motor. Just gotta make sure that's enough coolant otherwise I'm gunna blow it like my last motor :notgood:
