Remember it costs less then half of what most people quote to do it yourself and it's not rocket science people. Theirs enough info on the net and people around usually that will help with the right knowledge to do it yourself.

I do understand it costs less to do it yourself - That's why I pulled the motor myself and I'll be putting it back it.

I want a reputable DSM shop to do all the machining because all the places around here are full of hill jacks that don't have any ideas of what tolerences are because they've worked on fords and chevys all their lives. Nothing against them, I just don't want a bunch of small block guys building my motor.

I also don't want to learn how to build a motor, mess something up, and then have to deal with it later. I want a one shot - drop in - don't have to worry about anything - motor. With the luck I've had with this car, I do NOT want to chance ANYTHING.

I've also heard of nightmare bearing problems with stroker motors. That is why Buschur wants to build the 2.0. Shep and Rau are running the 2.0 instead of the stroker because of reliability, and they are putting down plenty of power with it. I know that some guys have had strokers that have'nt gone down yet and thats good, but there are alot of them that have. I researched the stroker idea for a while and from what I found out, it just wont be realiable enough for me because I am of the same thinking as you are, I want to do it once and not have to take it out ever again.

Damn. I was really hoping to have the quick spool & torque. Ahhh I don't know what to do.

Where are all the guys that have NO problems with the 2.3/2.4s? ANYONE OUT THERE LET ME KNOW.

I just wanted something different I guess - I know different isn't always better... I just wanted power through until 7K where my tranny likes to shift at. 2.0s you have rev the hell out of to make good power... that requires a built tranny.

This is looking like it'll cost too damn much. I'm depressed. :(

We run a stroker motor in this car and we are dropping in a custom 2.4l next week for 100 acre wood rally. We have also run a 2.0l in the car, but give up about 100 ft/lbs of torque to the 2.3l motor.

Also ran a 2.3l in the EVO IV last year as well.

Not sure how much more punishment a car can take, but this is much more brutal on components than any drag race.

The main reason the drag race guys (even myself) run a 2.0l (or 2.1l) happens to be because they launch and shift the car at close to 10k. You should not try this with a stroker motor in my opinion!

Just my lousy .02.

I have ~30K miles currently on the motor with EXCELLENT results in conjunction with alot of time tuning my AEM EMS on the street and dyno.

I run Valvoline ZR1 20W50 from breakin to today with no problems.

You will easily make 400awhp @20psi w/pump gas on a SCM-6152S bolt-on, and 500awhp on 110 @26-27psi. Personally, your current turbo won't do what you are looking for.

I don't have problems with my motor whatsoever, because I keep a high level of maintenence, and I researched alot before doing it.

If you are looking at staying in the $5K range, go with a good stock 2.4L crank, eagle rods and weiseco or Ross pistons, good trimetal bearings, and quality accessory parts.

You should easily be able to make the motor for $5K. Mine cost alot more, because I like bells and whistles, and I had a bigger budget to start with. My only regret is not going with the Groden's in my car.

Tim - Seems like you've had very successful results with your quarter mile times and HP numbers.

I know my turbo is a little smaller than what it should be - I'll look into something a little bigger down the road. For now, this the T04B Vtrim is supposed to flow about 47lbs a min. it's not too small, a little shy of a 50trim.

I'm not looking to break any records. hell @ this point I'd be happy with a motor that ran more than a month. The car has been down for 18 months with two diffrent used 6 bolts in it after the problems came with the 7 bolt. I just want something fresh and reliable. again, I want a fast street car, nothing sick. no big numbers.

I think I'll end up going with a 2.4l just to be different and I'll maintain it like I always do.. always on time, with the best oils and filters. I constantly check everything.

Thanks guys

I'd call Mitch at Engintecs and tell him how much you have to work with, he's not as well known as some of the other guys, but you won't be disappointed.

Mine too. :thumb: Tell Mitch oldman sent you so he'll charge you double. :D

Another vote for Mitch at Engintecs.

Steve Hill also does engine work and his been in the DSM game since the early-mid 90's. Steve's prices are very low because it's a side job for him. I don't know where Mitch's prices are currently at but there is no way in hell that any of the "high profile" vendors are going to be able to touch Steve (and possibly Mitch's) prices.

I've been speaking with Mike Huml - President of Slowboy.
That's because, well, go look on his website at his list of employees and compare that to all the names who were formally associated with Slowboy. I'd encourage you to review multiple forums and see the customer care that Slowboy provides.

Hi to you too, Huml.

95GSXBLUR, all of your questions have been answered and there are more than enough recommendation for you to make your own decision. You broke the rules when you started posting vendor feedback, I'm closing this because we can all see where this is going.
