Funny how people say a 420a is crap when there are plenty of them that can smoke their ass.

And I had a friend whose 1st gen talon 4G63 NT could not hang with me. Both cars were auto and had the same mods. The 1st gen is also lighter, right?

The only advantage of the 4G63 NT is that you could throw a turbo on their a lot easier. You can get the parts from the junk yard and skip fabrication or expensive aftermarket stuff. THAT, I do envy.

There's a guy over at 2GNT who's dyno'd 160 to the wheels all motor. I think he ran a 15.235 last spring. There's a handful of 420a people getting close to breaking into the 14s. Sure, we may not be running as fast as the turbo cars, but so what? I have to ask, how many turbo DSMs run 14s or better? I'd say all of them. How many NTs? None currently in existence. Seems to me if you're putting in the wrench time and doing the tuning, it doesn't matter how fast everyone else goes. You set your own goals for your car and you work to achieve those goals. I think anyone who buys a DSM, any year, any trim, and puts some research into what they're doing and works to make improvements deserves respect. Pick on those who go insane at Pep Boys on the ricer aisle and bastardize their cars, not the people who run slower times because their not turbo imo.

I could not have said it better myself.

EDIT: Those damn ricers at pep boys  LOL

And after researching for a year and a half, I found it logical to go turbo.

I set my goals. I hit a 16.0 on my 4G63N/T with some good mods. No balance shafts, decked head, cold air intake (not ram air, it was placed in the fender), lightened car and a few other mods. Another 6 months past and I said it's time for forced induction or the bottle.

Turbo baby and no looking back on those slow 16.0 days. I was one of you n/t guys before too remember so I know how it is to be like you.

If you are in the car scene for speed, don't go all motor. That is all I have to say.

If you want to have fun, with a nice stereo and a gorgeous car, the n/t is fine.

This thread NEEDS to be closed. Not only is this the dumbest question I have ever heard seeing that an all motor 4 cylinder will never be fast and people arguing 420A vs. a 4g63 na is just plain retarded. I don't care if someone dynoed 225 whp all motor ... I bet the car still runs a 14.5 which is just plain ridiculous considering the mods that must have been done to the car to get it to that level. 420A is crap, 4g63 is nothing special either without a turbo. If you started this thread to build an all motor car then I suggest you change your pattern of thinking while you still can...

LOL. You've just contradicted yourself. By posting that, all you've done is open up a whole new can of instant 420A vs 4G63, which this thread was NOT about. Now before this turns into another war, it now does need to be closed... :dsm: :talon: :laser:

here, take a look at this, if you didnt see it...

I suggest you change your ignorant "Im Turbo so Im better than you" way of thinking, its really getting old. NT is what we have to work with, and we are going to work with it. if you cant respect the fact that we dont have turbos, but still would like to work on our cars to increase performance, than dont post in here. did you not expect there to be NT talk in the NT section? We are in a different class than you, but still have relativly the same goals, to increase the performance of our cars and make them faster. i think your ass is blocking the view of this concept, so try and pull your head out of it k? :thumb:

umm sir, u have been OWNED LOL....but he is right, this is a n/t section. We would appreciate it if you did not come into our section to redicule us...ah f-that

Bro u got owned, flat out owned, you came into the n/t section trying to make fun of us and expecting not to get some comments back......well this is what happens 420a vs 4g63 war.....Cant we all be one happy family?

yes this is a non turbo section, however you guys should be looking at making your cars turbo, sc, sprayed or going all show. You CAN'T make a fast all motor 4 cylinder. You can't it's not possible. It pisses me off when you non turbo guys spend more money on your cars than we do and you by useless crap like a cold air intake, header and a full exhaust, cam gears, safcs and so on and run a 15.5. I just saw a post that said " I finally got rubber in 2nd " ... that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. My friends automatic chevy caprice chirps 2nd. In the end you gain like 5 horses and drive around like you have a 400 hp car. I respect n/t guys trying to make their cars fast, but all motor is definitly the dumbest way to go about it. Either go forced induction, rice it out like 75% of the nt guys do, or buy a different car.

I didn't mean to argue 4g63 vs 420A. Either motor will be slow without a turbo that's the bottom line. Great some of you are close to hitting 14s, but 14s is still ridiculously slow and a complete waste of money considering those guys had to dig into their engines to get to where they are at. I'm just advizing the thread starter to save up for a nice turbo kit or just buy a turbo dsm and go from there. Don't waste any money with a non turbo goal in mind.

there arnt these problems in any other car groups, i think the few turbo guys who start these fights need to get their heads out of their asses, and i said few cause its only a select few that do it, the rest are great help to us. :thumb:

There are debates like this in other groups. There is constant bitching on 20vturbo.com and vwhoretex.com over which VW motor is the best. The 1.8t or the VR6.. Its quite stupid alright..

first of all, i dont think any Non turbo is driving around acting like they have 400hp. when people ask me, i tell them my car is slow. second, i agree with you to a point. Fast has a different meaning to NT guys then it does to turbo guys. you can have a fast NT compared to other NTs. but i agree that our NT's cant be fast compared to other cars by just going all motor. thats why i didnt go all motor and got forced induction. no my car is fairly quick and i didnt spend a bungle on it, $1000 tops. but you dont have to come in here and ridicule peoples choices for what there doing. if they like the challenge of all motor and want to do it, more power to them, you shouldnt ridicule them for there choice. its exactly that, there choice. so respect it

... did you just suggest ricing it out?? :thumbdown

I've only seen mabey two riced out eclipses, that does not consitute 75%. If you are being helpful then by all means post here in the N/T forum, if you are just being a dick like this post suggests shut your fuking yap and leave us to our own devices. Godamn we all own a dsm thats why we are here, most of us are working with what we got, why damn the choice we made to get an nonturbo, does it mean you are better than us because mabey you could afford a turbo and we could not? Mabey some of us want a little performance, not the gear bashing tire melting balls to the wall getup you turbos guy seem to think you have. We understand the limitations of our cars belive us we hear it almost hourly, why keep putting someone down? Leave us be. Or mabey we could become unruley on the turbo only board, put out the same shit we get. :thumbdown

I really dont like this thread. But if you want an answer to the actual topic asked...

Xhyno got 195hp and 199 tq.

Give me until september and I will blow it out of the water. :D

my 1gnt 2.0 dynoed at about 123hp and 126ft/lbs with a stock engine with 64k on it. With a rebuild it dynoed at 127hp and 131ft/lbs.

My mods

Pacesetter 2.25" Mandrel bent and ceramic coated headers
freeflow cat
freeflow resinator
Glasspack Muffler
Port and Polished heads
5 angle valve job
320cc injectors
cam gears
underdrive crank pully
K&N
Ported intake Manifold
bored Throttle Body
190lph supra fuel pump
2g shift knob
Customed Geared Tranny w/ Higher 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th Gear and double 2nd sync

With these mods, My car dynoed at 195hp and 199ft/lbs at the wheels.

I have surprised many local GS-t owners (stock, and very lightly moded) and a few with 2g turbo kits, And I have beat 2 GSX autos (forget about the 5spd GSX, they tear me up off the line).

I ran about 3 weeks ago at moroso a 14.9@86mph (gonna bring the slip to school to scan).

xhypno

Correction, his name was Xhypno. He also claimed to be tuned with a SAFC. Nothing was even proven though. Never had a video, pic or evidence he did this. Though he was a very smart guy when it came to these cars and I respected his knowledge, he had nothing to show to it.

2nd... he was also the first guy to write up a documented turbo project using the n/t 4G63 block. Very inspiring and I talked to him on numerous occasions via AOL. He was a turbo guy at heart. Said the n/t build up was fun but he put too much money into it for the outcome. The n/t build up car was just as unreliable as the turbo car as the thing had to be wound to 7800rpmish to create it's whopping 195HP. Turbos modded make that power at 4500rpms. Something internally failed in his beefy n/t.

And our cars turbo are gear bashing, tire melting, balls to the wall fast; thank you very much.

Well to sum this threads intentions up, if you look at my shit you will see I have a gsx, the only reason I was asking was to know what the heart of my car was capable of. The heart has nothing to do with t25's or 14b's, it is a 4g63. Looking at a non turbo motor gives you an idea of how efficient it can be tuned. Since there are so many variables in turbo applications it is also more consistant to look at the naturally aspirated form of a motor for results.

I didn't realize it would stir up such contraversies, LOL, I thought it was pretty straight forward. It was not to be a 4g vs 420a thread, or a turbo vs non turbo thread. The only thing i wanted to know is Who has the most horsepower n/a? But I learned alot more too.

I dont wanna see this thread closed. It should be a place where yall can post up numbers and trade recipes. I did not mean any harm to either sides of the ship. I hope you guys can work through this so you can keep posting some dyno figures

Well that was how the thread was started. Just a discussion of what kind of power has been made by the N/T motor. It was fine until Mr. "I have a turbo and the rest of you suck" came and started the war.

Agreed... I think it would be a great idea to "trade recipes" with eachother. If some of the negative posts were deleted this would be a good sticky about non-turbo setups and what kind of power they make, which mods people find good or not.... stuff like that. :dsm:

It is possible to make a nt fast; its just the amount of aftermarket support and # of people that have done it are so small in comparison, plus the amount of $ taken to do it , as opposed to just buying a kit or a 4G63 car t begin with. You can look at the neons for example; there is a street drivien 300hp all motor neon with very high compression and crane 0018 cams (i think the compression was like 18:1 insane). now the 420a is like 300lbls heavier, understood, but so is a awd 4G63 compared to a GST, or a gst spyder compared to a regular gst.

In any case, my opinion of a fast nt 420a would be:
race ported and polished head upgraded springs/retainers/PT lifters, valves
extrude honed or sheet metal intake manifold
long tube AF/X type header fully replacing the cat (there is one in the works)
stand alone via Megasquirt, DFI, etc or 97' AF/X (or both)
2.7 stroked short block at 12:5:1 compression (or 10:5:1) if you wann run just pump gas
2.5" exhaust
CAI
LSD
crane 0018 or Crower stage 3 cams (or 0016's if you wanna run 10:5:1 total cr)
adjustable 2.4 cam gears
studderbox
udp
Propane injection or Water/Methanol injection to increase 93 octane pump gas level
upgraded injectors / fuel pump
drag radials
good driving skill in the 1/4

imo, this would be a mid 13 second car with a good driver. add some nitrous (100 shot) and slicks and easily the 12's.

It all has to do with what your personal goals are. If I wanted a 12 second DSM, I would have peddled Daisy long ago and got a nice 1G TSi AWD. I'm not interested in building a drag queen. I'm interested in making a relatively quick 2GNT and having fun with what I've got. I'm not dropping all this money into an all motor setup because I have illusions of grandeur and want to smoke all others. I'm doing it for the never been done before aspect. You can buy a decent turbo DSM, throw a grand into it and have something in the 13s or better I'm sure, but that's child's play. A fast DSM is a fast DSM. So what? Everyone knows you don't #### with turbo Diamondstars. Period. But not everyone bought one. Most people ended up getting the NTs and someone's got to put some effort into making the most of these cars. There are more of us than there are you guys and it stands to reason that we should not just drop our cars off at the salvage lot because they lack a factory hair dryer and a 10+ year old powerplant. People need to be able to make the most of what they have and not have others with similar cars bashing them. A turbo guy singing the tired old song about how the 420a sucks is just as pathetic as the 420a guy getting his panties in a wad and bitching right back at him. You drive DSMs. We drive DSMs. Let's drop the bullshit and start showing some of the class we're supposed to be going fast with, eh?

go dr1665! i would have quoted, but DAMN thats alot to quote :p Im happy with my almost running JDM N/A 4g63 engine. (at least i WILL be happy when its done)

DSM's > everything else
