Who has the FASTEST n/t car on here?

seriously? the 420a is one of the most neglected platforms in tuner car history. Hell I'd even say the neon has more supporters than us....

I agree and i respect you guys that are doing this. I think its awesome seeing people progress. When im asking about 4g63's im talking about na's. I havnt come across really anyone that has built a decent motor for the non turbo. I know its easy to built a turbo setup for them but someone has had to do something decent with a n/t.

well in that regard, i have only seen a handful (if that) go NT on the 4g63, there was actually a thread a few months ago about someone wanting to build a 4g63 nt, and he was sadly received with much ridicule but the rest of the community

That honestly doesnt surprise me at all. I wouldnt have even posted anything about a n/t 4g63 until i seen this thread. Most people are going to ridicule a n/t 4g63 for the simple fact of the come turbo in a stock form. I have been thinking about doing a few things more to mine just to see what they can do. Since the 1g is lighter i think it would be interesting. Im going to eventually go turbo but i may possibly do everything to prepare for it while staying n/t and see what it will run.

carmiencke: If you do decide to build your N/T and share that thought, you'll receive nothing but "get an orange for sale sign and buy a turbo" yada yada yada...

The 420A folks are a special breed that took on a challenge despite all the words of discouragement. But they made out with some impressive results and are now respected for it.
It's of course not all about respect, but instead what you want out of your car. It isn't a job that will be accomplished in a couple weekends though. It's taken the 420A guys years of patience to get where they are now.
But if you're willing to spend the time and money on a project like turning a N/T 4G63 into a fire breather, more power to you. Anyone that takes the path less traveled should be commended.

I mess with my N/T DSMs daily and am having a blast. IMO, that's all that matters. :thumb:

Well i was considering building a NT awd 1g, because we had an AWD shell, and an AWD transmission laying around, but i was leaning toward using a 4g64 block with a built 63 DOHC head and having some low-end torque fun with it. LOL

The only reason why i even posted anything on this thread is because its something i have been curious about for awhile now and these are the type of that understand. I know i could personally care less about what other people think of me and whether they have respect for me or not. If that was the case i would most likely not even own a dsm and would be driving something like a bmw especially considering the area i live in. I will most likely be going turbo at some point but im seriously considering seeing what my n/t can do before i go that route. What i was thinking for it was building a head that could be run either route i go, converting it to e85 with supporting mods of higher flowing fuel pump, and bigger injectors. Finding something decent to tune with. Thats all stuff i could run being n/t or turbo. PLus to throw in to all that i have a spare i/m laying around im thinking about porting along with my t/b for the hell of it. All that plus what i have done i think would be interesting to see what i could run in a 1/4 mile with decent tires.

Oh btw i absolutely love the way your talon looks. 2gb talons are the best looking imo.

A lot of ppl here will read that list and shoot it down instantly, but I'd say: setup a budget and a realistic goal, and go for it.

My opinion on forced induction cars are that they are quite a bit more complex and if you don't have the know-how or the money to bring it to a proper tuner, they're difficult to enjoy.
That's what happened to me when I bought a turbo MR2 and was soon overwhelmed by it. I just didn't know enough and couldn't afford to bring it to anyone. So I ditched it and got a N/T which I learned on and enjoyed for some time. After getting more familiar with the vehicle, I graduated back to the turbo model.
I'm doing the same with the DSMs. Learning all I can and really getting to know the engine before diving into the turbo models.

I have to say that I'm more into RallyCross and AutoCross than drag racing. In the time I've had my Laser, and more recently a busted Talon, I've learned that they're pretty heavy. The cars feel heavy to me and the instant I get the Talon running, I'm going to devote it to rallycross. That means stripping it of nearly everything for weight savings. Less then 2600 lb feels like a reasonable goal for that.

I see you've got the basic mods done on your car. A K&N filter is a good start. I did the air can hack mod too. A 2.5" header back exhaust and if you're free of emissions testing, hollow out the catalytic. Good tires are obviously a must. The wider the better.
After these mods, you'll have to start spending a bit more money to make more progress and that's the part that turns ppl off for modding the N/T.
9!'clipseDOHC, another user on here, put a fair amount of time into a N/T 4G63. I think his best was 16 in the 1/4. I'm not sure how extensive his mods were though.

I dont know why people would shoot that list down other than the ported intake manifold and throttle body. Thats all stuff that i will have once i go forced induction anyways so what difference plus that is a realistic goal. Thats all stuff that could benefit a n/t also as long as i tune it which once again i will be having a way to tune after i turbo it so once again it shouldnt matter. I have actually talked to 9!clipseDOHC before. His mod list is somewhat similar mine but who knows the condition of his motor and tranny. Judging off of cars i have raced before im pretty positive im mid 15's. For example it took a automatic sxt charger until 85 to catch up to me. There rated at 15.6 roughly quarter mile. Thats only one example plus im the second owner on my car an it has had extensively maintained be and the previously owner. Emissions dont matter here to btw. Oh and mr2 are surprisingly pretty cool cars. My friend has a second and first gen.
