Hey guys, I've been doing alot of research and I can't get a good answer.

The other day I went ripping by my buddy in 3rd gear and he said that there was some smoke coming out of the exhaust. He said it was white and smelled pretty nasty.

My question is, if its a headgasket shouldn't my temperature readings be out the roof?? I blew a HG on my old mustang and it overheated every 10 miles of driving. My logger shows a coolant temp of 199-205...that is normal right??

Please help, i know dsm's are known to be stinking cars at WOT, but smoke i won't allow :thumb:

I bought the turbo from a close friend and it was low mileage and in awesome condition. If I have a bad HG shouldn't I be loosing coolant and overheating?? What should the smoke smell like?? Antifreeze?? Only happens when i'm on it pretty hard, or sometimes idling. There is diffenetly more smoke at idle, but it still isn't much and it happens randomly.

Any thoughts??? WTF

A HG coolant leak will usually not cause overheating (until all the coolant is used up). Do a compression test and coolant pressure test (also see post 16 here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182023&highlight=white+smoke+turbo+seals). If they pass it's your turbo seals. Worn turbo seals (coolant or oil) generally cause more white smoke at idle, less when reved. HG coolant leak generally is more consistant smoke all the time and will usually discolor the coolant, and always make the affected piston head be spanky shiney clean like it was new.

OKay thanks!! The weird thing is that there is only smoke sometimes and there hasn't been any for a least a week!! If there is some its only a little and its at random times. Its definitely a tough diagnoses for sure but i'm confident that the HG is okay because no mixed water in oil, and no coolant loss. I'll keep an eye out and see if it comes back :thumb:
