I tried searching and all I found was aftermarket gauges and people having issues with their gauges...
My question is, on a 1g, about what temp is the engine at certain points on the stock TEMP gauge. After doing my timing belt and water pump with a 50/50 flush, I used to read straight up but now it's to the far left of the "E" almost to the "T" in TEMP. I've got a 160* thermostat in it. I'm also in southern Alabama where we have 90* heat index in the shade LOL. I've heard that running too cold can be bad. I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me some approx numbers. Thanks.

I've got a 160* thermostat in it.
DSM's needs 195* T-stats to operate correctly, properly and normally. In fact, ALL gasoline motors runs with the 195* T-stat ... and it doesn't matter how hot or cold the area is.

The motor needs to run HOT to run effectively. You cool it down and it hates you bad since it can't run at full peak that the factory designed it to be.

What happens when you run a cold T-stat is the temp sensor is telling the ECU to shove in more fuel to heat the block up that the ECU is programmed to sense for normal operation. with a cold T-stat, the system is in a 'open loop' condition and really wasting your fuel in the process.

This is your problem. Shove that 195 in and that needle will go back up to just before the half...and your motor will like you a lot better.

Good luck - DSM

I run a 170* thermostat a little 50/50 mix with water and water wetter with the temp gauge just below half car runs good.
