White smoke stopped?

I went out to get lunch, and as I left my work parking lot white (at least it looked pretty white) smoke began to come from the exhaust. The car wasn't overheating so I drove it the 1/2 mile up the the subway I was going to. When I stopped I got out of the car to check what was up, the smoke didn't smell sweet, but didn't smell great either. I got my food and figured I'd drive back to work and maybe get a tow from there after work. However, when I started back up my car, no smoke. Drove it home without
seeing it again. Heard of a trick to check gaskets involving taking the coolant cap of and cranking the car, I tried it and it didn't spew coolant. I'm thinking it might not be head gasket, but I'm not sure what else there is, and moreover, why it would just stop like
that. Any insight appreciated.

To be clear, the car is a 98 eclipse gst. 68k miles, no overheating issues.

It could be excessive condesation. After driving the other day mine sat for a bit, and when I started it again, it blew white smoke for about 1 min while warming up. smelled vaguely like cat piss. After that it cleared up.

The exhaust mixing with water and sitting for a but gets pretty rank.

Sounds like condensation to me as well, especially if it was a cool/damp day. Unless it starts happening constantly I wouldn't worry about it

Well it wasn't too cool, but I'll tell you, here in florida, we certainly are always excessively damp. I appreciate the responses, it's helped put my mind at ease a little.

To put your mind at ease even better, you can do a compression and leak down test and if you want to get really fancy, you can do a refractometer test with the antifreeze to test for hydrocarbons in the coolant. If it's green across the board, beat it until its morale improves...

Mine did the same thing carbon deposits inside the engine. stopped after i ran the car a couple of days

A simple test as well is pressure test the coolant system say overnight, and when you cold start it smoke would indicate if it's head gasket or not. Not likely though since its intermittent
