Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

The engine bay is pretty decent,no leaks, oil etc but they kinda removed the valve cover and looks like they didnt have the bolts, so they bolt it with whatever they coul find LOL but i can replace them, apart from that the CAS plug is taped idk if they rewired it or what. Today im going to test drive it and i'll take some pics too Ps: DSM's are extremely rare here especially a gst/tsi

With all the "rigging" and corners cut. I wouldn't pay more than $500. And it better have a clean interior and a clean rust free body as well.

Yeah it has a clean interior and rust free too..exterior wise only thing wrong is the paint clear is starting to peel off barely noticeable tho, interior hmmm its a 90's interior LOL its in a reaaally good shape for 20 years old.. In about an hour or two im going to test drive it and take pictures of the engine bay

A proper leak-down test will determine which(not if) cylinders are pulling in coolant. I can't actually say what the car would be worth considering your in an entirely different country but here if it were a super clean shell, I would say ~800 USD. Lots of factors go into the price like availability of the model in your area and currency value.

Get the napa block test kit. It has a coolant system "sniffer" which will detect any exhaust gases getting into the coolant system due to a hg leak or cracked block.:thumb: that should tell the real story on whether not its leaking. And as others have pointed yes do a compression check and or leak down test, if the seller refuses these procedures be performed, look elsewhere. Trust me you dont want a car that is meant for a dd to become a project and then you have what my dad always referred to as 2 dead ones lying out there!:ohdamn:

Wow look at this guys is this a 1.8l 4g67? I think they swapped the engine that it had in it because MAYBE it had a 6 bolt to clarify its a 1992 Tsi. The rest of the car is in great condition, i ran it and it drives allright no slipping nothing.. Smokes comes when on WOT and not even a lot.. Managed to get the price down to 480 bucks LOL Pic:

Also check the coolant overflow for oil as it can go both ways. Also take the radiator cap off when COLD and start the car bubbles would be bad. Be carefull remember coolant gets hot

It looks like a 37 but there is a casting tag on the block to make sure. One thing osi for certain that is one of the dirtiest bays I've seen in a dsm and that air filter alone tells me a good story about that cars lack of maintenance.?

I think i'm still buying it and do a gasket overhaul on it..come on outside+inside of this car is in awesome shape just this engine i dont know if its worth it..but come on dropped the price to 425 bucks!!!!

I guess thats not a bad deal, but dont be upset when its more then just a gasket that needs to be done, because i can tell from just looking at that engine bay that no one cared for it whatsoever. Also there's rust near the suspension from the looks of it. Also think about the fact its FWD, not awd.

E: Dont mean to be negative its just that usually when people are too lazy to even buy new proper sized bolts, they will just buy the cheapest fix for anything that goes wrong, which usually means there's A LOT going to go wrong.

if you are not fully prepared to rebuild this car and have it be your future money pit maybe you will be better off being patient.

i am also not a fan of buying a car that smokes and assume its the gasket without knowing more history or doing some tests on the car like others have said on here you are literally buying a shell so imo you should at least thoroughly inspect that shell to be sure you are getting at least that

the shell is very clean I could post a pic of the exterior/interior but that doesnt really matter..its 90% rust free..my spyder has way more rust LOL
Well it does look like they put the engine together just enough to hold a few weeks thats what is bothering me.. I can get a 2g 4g63t head+intake could it be swappable? bore on the 4g67 is 81.5mm tho
Edit: Ive NEVER seen an awd DSM here..EVER..only FWD's and 420a's..basically a TSi is rare even tho I dont think the engine in there is from a TSi..If heads are swappable I might end up buying it

So I have white smoke coming from my exhaust I'm going to take it to a mechanic to do a compression test if it is my head gasket someone tell me how hard that is to do myself? If I have to have it done at a shop how much do you think it would cost? My car is getting further and further away from running again I'm very sad... help guys!!

head gaskets aren't that hard but its time consuming and you need to make sure its done right. if you have a buddy that's done a dsm head gasket have them come lend u a hand

The chronic hg issue was resolved by the 1997 model. Issue was that 1-2 of the head bolts bottomed out before torquing. All new head bolt sets are revised. You can get all parts you need from any parts store. You don't have to order special kits from online or anything. Import direct, dayco, or gates are great kits you can buy from parts stores for this sort of thing.

Assuming the problem is the HG, If you take it to a mechanic s/he will probably charge you more than you paid for the car, since the cost will include a timing belt job as well. Unfortunately you have only three options at this point. Pay the mechanic, do the job yourself, or upgrade to a turbo DSM. If this isn't your DD, I'd say try to tackle it yourself.

Definitely false- I bought my 1997 GS in 2003 with oil running out of the back of the head from a faulty head gasket.

I read through all of this post guys thanks for all the help my car is blue and white smoke to just like the one above this it doesn't have a smell to it its just white smoke I'm going to follow the advice in this forum thanks again

Okay well I've learned to do enough of this on my own now then I guess it's time to teach myself the compression test. And I know you're right they will charge me a lot to test this I have a friend of Pepboys said 39.99 just for the test he will not rip me off the store may try to. I will let you know what happens right now still trying to finish the brake drums and get the heater core replace it's a slow process I don't have a lot of time and not much help. Thanx
