Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

yeah i drained some earlier, down to where the dipstick says its ok.... have not done anything else besides that. going to do a boost leak test tomoorw. and found that the wastegate accuator hose that connects to my MBC was disconnected as well.. dont know what blowby is but going to check it out.

so how would i know if i have that? and how would i get rid of it? tried looking for it on here but couldn't find

I stand to correct you on the spot here with a viable source

blowby - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

What happens is the pressure from compression and combustion gets into the crankcase and carries the oil out of the pcv and into the intake ducting, the oil is then carried into the cylinders and burned. This is my profession and I have rebuit many motors. I know what I'm talking about. Check your facts first so people get the correct information!!!!

To check for blow by you would want to perform wet and dry compressioon tests as well as a leak down test. Another sign of excessive blowby is a fuel odor on the oil dipstick signifying that unburned fuel is getting past the rings.

oh. ok but would excessive blow by be caused by to much oil? i removed it so it can be 4 1/2. but have not driven it.

yes having excess oil increases the amount of oil in the crankcase that can be picked up and carried into the intake system through the pcv.

wow never thought that could hurt my car.. but i am going to drive it tomorrow and let everyone know. i hope this is it.. Thanks for helping me understand.... It really helped out..:thumb:

you said you put seafome in it. seafome makes the car smoke while all of the bad crap it getting blown out. but it depends on where you put it. the best is to pull a vac line and put it in the bottle and rev it to about 2500 until it sucks up the whole can. when the can is empty turn off the engine and let it sit for about 15 minutes. then start it up and run it hard until it stops smoking. then change your oil and plugs because some of the broken down crap can seep into the oil and/or foul out the plugs

yeah i put some in the pcv line and some in oil, and gas. changed oil twice already and i changed the plugs and wires. and i saw alot of white smoke come out.

when my 97 gsx warms up it smells bad, like burning coolant. the level isn't reducing, i've only noticed the smell for a few days. My car is not over heating but i am not boosting to 18 psi (what the mbc is set at) and the car just feels slow period. Also, after warm up, every shift or if i'm sitting there and rev the throttle, a decent cloud of white smoke shoots out of my exhaust. what gives...head gasket maybe?

Definitely listen to this man he helped me through alto when I thought my went out,he had alto of information and was super nice about every stupid question I asked.

Ok so my buddy said he blew a headgasket. So i helped him change the headgasket. sent off the head and had it checked out. they did a light resurface on it. Installed with a new OEM mitsu headgasket.

Now starting up it still blows white smoke at idle and when you rev it up.

Compression test
Cyl #1 165 Cyl #2 175 Cyl #3 180 Cyl #4 175

Leak down
Cyl#1 7% Cyl #2 8% Cyl #3 8% Cyl #4 6%

So leakdown and compression test are good and i still cant figure out why he is steadily smoking at idle. it is just pure white. no blue tint or hue to it. just straight white

Could be a cracked turbo CHRA. Leakdown isn't THAT great but it's ok.
Is it steam or is it smoke? Does it dissipate as your driving down the street or does it look like a housefire after about 2 minutes idling?

Do you have a radiator pressure tester?

is he loosing coolent? if so how much in how long?

how was the head resurfaced? what HG did you use?

dont have a radiator pressure check.

head was stripped of manifolds and cams and taken to a local shop that has done alot of Honda and mitsu heads for me and never had a problem with any of my heads.

its just a light smoke and once you rev it up it will smoke quite a bit then die down.

ok.. glad you have been having luck with the shop....

but you still did not awnser the questions.

how much coolant you loosing and how quick? is it a quart a day? or a gallon in 1 mile?

How was the head surfaced? Belt? surface grinder? High speed mill?

What gasket? MLS? or composite?

did the surface finish look like the first machine or the 2nd?

i would check the turbo for shaft play also try this disconnect the the lines from the valve cover that goes to the intake pipe cap the ones on the pipe you may be pumping oil back into your intake through the pcv valve. are you using synthetic oil?
