Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

I bought a head gasket kit from eBay, and yes the head was torque fine by a mechanic I was not there in the moment I was working, u think he might not torque strong enough?

If the car is leaking water in the cylinders, it has to show signs of oil in the the radiator right? Famous chocolate shape because is not mixing water and oil

Yes this happened 2 weeks after I bend 4 valvules , timming belt broke , so I changed the valves, valve seals head gasket and took the head to the shop to polish a little bit

Do a compression test.

X1 Altho i do not care much for major engine components such as a headgaskets and what not from ebay, i have bought a few and had no problems. But go ahead and run that compression test and tell us what you find out.

I have a theory, regarding the white smoke, is just and idea, my brake fluid and clutch fluid is empty, is it possible that the brake booster is letting that fluid in the injection and the engine is burning it??

Regards alex

Sure sounds like the turbo.... In and out play might cause oil to burn in the exhaust. I have had that happen on two turbo's installed on my 92. Once you get in and out play, it's just a matter of time before you start smoking out everyone around you.

I just picked up a 96 gsx for a great price. The car has high mileage (168k). I drove it about 40 miles home on the highway w/the A/C on and the car ran fine with one exception. I'm 95% sure it's a blown t25 turbo. The car smokes extremely heavily when I boost. If no boost- the car is fine. After boosting it will smoke and keep smoking at idle for a few minutes. The turbo looks to be the original. I picked it up pretty late tonight so I didn't have the daylight to check for shaft play. I have a 20g and 16g in the garage at my other place. I just want to be sure of this before I go installing w/out a rebuild.

If the car is boosting it's most likely on its last days, but i am more inclined if it is white smoke, that your head gasket is bad. When your head gasket goes bad coolant tends to get into the pistons and get burned off causing this white smoke to sum it up short.

The reason I was questioning the head gasket is because I have seen cars w/bad hg's before and they will smoke at idle as well. Also if it smokes that much- would I then be able to drive the car home w/out overheating 40 miles on the highway at 65mph?

thanks!
meek

Yes you should be able to make it home safely. Baby it and it should be ok, just keep an eye on your engine temps at all times.

Sorry, I meant that I did drive it 40 miles home at highway speeds w/the a/c on full blast and the car ran fine. The temp gauge did not move. I had a 2g talon w/a pinhole leak in the hg and it was impossible to drive on the highway- it would overheat immediately and there was no white smoke since it was such a small leak. Thank you for the replies.

No problem. Also make sure you don't run pure water. I recommend always using a 50/50 mix of water and coolant.

Meek, changing the subject (well just a little;)) are you still running the ebay 16G and what ever came of all that.

That car was sold quite some time ago. As far as I know- he is still running that turbo strong w/no issues. I am not 100% sure as I don't speak to the kid but see him on forums from time to time.

So a slight change after checking some things today. There is oil in the side mount intercooler, also oil in the upper intercooler pipe. NO shaft play in the turbo. Started the car up- drove it hard for 20 minutes or so and NO SMOKE. I then stopped the car for about 10 minutes and got back in- boosted it hard and I see smoke. Couldn't tell the color or the smell as there wasn't much of it. Any ideas? Am I just running rich and it was carbon???

The turbo has NO SHAFT PLAY.

You need to find out the color of that smoke. It could possibly be something small like a PCV valve.

I just bought a 97 eclipse GST with a jdm motor, it supposed to have around 50k miles, its a very very clean motor, 14b turbo, dejon racing fmic, dejon intake.. just some background on motor

it looks out of the oil return line, when i bought it the kid said it was the gasket not the one that goes to turbo, when I start it and let it idle the there is no smoke in the exhaust and then when i give it gas white smoke comes out, its not a thick thick smoke or its not blue.. it seems liek when i had the hood poped smoke came up from somewhere possibly the return line gaskey??

Im new to alll this so im not too sure what the problem is, if anyone could give me some answers that would be great!!

i looked underneath to see if anything else was leaking and it was only the return line that was leaking that i could see
