i have a 96 gst and i was drivin tonight just normal wasnt runnin it hard at all and i stop at a stop light and when i turn the corner and get on the gas all i hear is this whining like a supercharger and it scared the crap out of me so i got off the gas real quick and then on my way home it just whined everytime i would accelerate and i had no boost at all. so i'm pretty sure my turbo went but i just want to make sure and hear from everyone what they think. also on the way home i would give it a lil more gas when it was whining and the whining would get quieter and just sounded like metal on metal scraping. so just let me know what you think. im pretty sure its the turbo. and im pissed

Yep sounds like it. Pull the intake off and check for shaft play and if its bad enough than you probly have metal in the oil. So that will need flushed out a few times. You may need to clean out all your intercooler hoses, cause the metal grinding off goes into the intake and when mine went, it left metal inbeded in the rubber hoses.

you'll be livin closer to me once i move back out to va this summer. but i gotta get my hands on a turbo to put in now i was thinkin about goin 16g

yea i've been lookin at the exact same thing. but thanx for the help man im off to bed ill have to take a look at the turbo tomorrow

Turbos can have some sideplay :O it's endplay that you don't want ;) but we knew that's what you meant jay :thumb: Of course from what your describing in the symptoms you're going to have excessive side play that allows the inducer wheel to come into contact with the compressor housing.
