whine, then clunk, now hard to move

I bought a early 92 awd with the 6/4 combo a week ago, and drove it home (500ish miles) and it ran like a champ.
When I parked it I noticed it was leaking some fluid from the rear end, which it was not when I inspected it prior to purchasing. I was thinking maybe a seal was bad or whatever. I didnt think it would hurt it to drive to my garage which was about 4 miles from where I had the car parked, but I must have been wrong. The car was fine starting out, then the rear started to whine, and so I slowed down to around 5 mph and when I turned on my street, it clunked a few times. I went to back it into my garage and it did not want to move when it was in reverse. I had to give it more than enough gas to get it to back into the garage. I am just curious as if this may be just low on fluid, or if I now have some warped gears. Anyone have an EDUCATED guess?

Sounds like you probably burned the carrier bearings or pinion bearings up from lack of lubrication. The gears are probably a pretty blue color also.

drained the oil today, had a few small shavings. flushed it with some cheap coastal, and then put some more cheap coastal in it to see if it ran better...which it did. took it around the block no problem. still having a leak tho. which i believe is the pinion seal, is there a black cover that goes over the seal? and does anyone have any hints on how to break the nut loose that holds the 4bolt pinion on? that thing is a bi***!

ended up actually being a problem in the t-case.. got a new one swapped in and no problems as of yet....
