Clunk when driving hard and shifting to new gear

hey everyone i have tried to search for my problem and see if anyone has had it before which im sure they have but have came up with very little. Basically my car drives good and when i began to mash on it and switch gears at slightly higher rpms with load it clunks going once its in the next gear and beginning to take off. Im wondering if this is some kind of bearing or if people think its the motor mount. Also are there any tests or things i can look for to try and find the actual issue. Any responses are welcome and thanks in advance.

Where is it coming from? If it's under/behind you then it's going to be the driveshaft assembly. VFAQ has a writeup on fixing it.

sounds like it might be right at the engine bay, my guess is either a mount or some bushing or something with the drive axle. Its not from the rear of the car, and i just had the transfer case recall done, i dont know if the car did it before because i had not drove it for 4 months while it got the new engine.

If you just had someone replace the xcase I would double check everything. Its possible that something didnt get tightened. Could possibly be a u joint too.. I know older RWD vehicles will clunk when going in gear if one is bad. Just a suggestion.

Trans mounts and carrier bearings, check 'em.

ok will do ill get under the car tomorrow morning and check back, anyone have a link to show how to check them besides visual inspection

The carrier bearings? Grab the drive shaft and yank on it. The trans mounts, a visual inspection will suffice.

also idk if it helps but the steering wheel kinds shakes when the car is idling where as before i dont remember it shimmying at all. That is what makes me lean towards motor mounts as well. Then again i dont know near as much about these cars as alot of people do.

That could also indicate trans mounts, check 'em out.

i'd put money on a motor mount. my spyder does it when i get on it and shift.
