Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

But, is a fuel pressure gauge necessary for a stock fuel setup? Also, where would you hook up a fuel pressure gauge on a stock fuel setup? Thanks

Fuel pressure gauges are used only on adjustable fuel pressure regulators, and only to adjust the regulator to what the stock fuel pressure is. After you have it set it's no longer necessary.

I'd get:

1:Boost Gauge
2:Exhaust Gas Temp. (EGT) Gauge
3:Oil Pressure Gauge

these are your best bet to cover the basics. after those since you have a FWD you need a wheel hop gauge, a wheel spin gauge and an understeer gauge.

jk bro. get the three that jccjr mentioned. once you get those then the only other real gauge you will need is a good wideband for tuning purposes.

Stupid question. What's the point of an aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauge when the car has one stock? Aren't they suffecient enough to know if your car is overheating, or has no oil pressure?

EDIT: Sorry, my input to the thread, would be boost, wideband and whatever else.

So what you are saying is that it wont do me any good to get an aftermarket fuel pressure gauge if i have my stock fuel setup?

the stock gauges aren't very accurate. When you get into real building you will realize that a couple of extra psi or a couple of extra degrees become very significant and being able to track it exactly is critical. For example you said "Aren't they suffecient enough to know if your car is overheating, or has no oil pressure?" you want to know this is happening before it happens. With the right gauges you can see gradual decreases in pressure or temps and that is vital.

Ok, now this makes perfect sense. Thank you

Not sure if you've paid much attention, but have you ever noticed anything missing on your 2g gauges?, how about numbers :D . Just because the gauge sits in the middle you have no real idea as to what that means. Not to mention they just plain aren't very accurate. Take the factory coolent gauge, even though the needle always seems to sit in the middle, the actual temp can easily change 30 deg and still seem to be at the same place.

Hey I would buy those. :shhh:

I have a boost, oil pressure and fuel pressure gauge but i have not installed them yet. The fuel pressure gauge says it must be mounted outside the car.....is this true? If so i need to buy another gauge before i installed my triple pillar. Help me out fellas.....thanks. Oh and if anyone has any quick links to install info on these i would appreciate it.

Link

Three I'd grab:
Boost gauge (Stock one is calculated based on airflow/rpm by the ECU, VERY inaccurate)
Wideband O2 (AEM UEGO, about $300)
Oil pressure

No, you don't need a fuel pressure gauge with a stock setup.

After you've rewired the pump, gone to a Walbro 255HP with an aftermarket AFPR, you'll want one to set the fuel pressure. But even then, you just get a little screw-on one and use one of the extra bungs on your AFPR.
Only reason to have an in-cabin fuel pressure gauge is to confirm that the pressure rate is correctly rising with boost, and that you aren't outrunning your current fuel setup. With a good setup, that isn't neccessary until you start making some ridiculously huge numbers. At which point the cost of an electronic fuel pressure gauge is a drop in the sea you've already spent.

If you *must* have one with a stock FPR, I'd replace the banjo bolt on top of the fuel filter. Only place you'll get a good read on a stock fuel setup.

And as has been said before, A/F gauges are just a blinky lightshow to let you know your OEM O2 sensor is still working. They're crap, and should be relegated to the Honda bin. EGT are only moderately better... you can still explode your engine very easily while the EGTs stay in a perfectly acceptable range. Only reason to have one is basic guesstimation monitoring, or if you put a pyrometer in each of the exhaust manifold runners, to watch and see if any of your combustion temperatures are drastically off from the others.

Ok how many of you actually have an egt gauge? I'm not going to argue the points of having one, but seriously think about what an egt gauge is for and if you will ever really use it. Do you guys know what causes high egt's?

I'd say Boost, EGT, AEM Wideband

Second that. With Autometer 30/30 boost gauge, Autometer EGT, AEM Wideband. Thats what i would get.

Hey guys i think i might go with boost, oil pressure (can you mount this gauge inside the cab?), and wideband 02 or egt. Also, has anybody thought of a volt gauge? Do any of you have any experiences with this gauge?

Also, are all these gauges easy to install or should i have them installed? Also, on an egt gauge i heard you have to drill into your exhaust manifold? Is this correct? Is this something that and average joe can do?

I have boost, egt and a/f light show. To be honest I just got the a/f light show to fill up one of the pods. boost and egt help obviously. EGT not as much since I use DSMLink to log and see how the car is urnning.

And yes EGT probe you have to tap into the manifold.. meaning doing some drilling. I recommend TRE Probe.

i have a boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and volts gauge because i have a lot of electrical stuff ran thru my car so i thought id be important, and under the dash in a conceal spot i have a " flashy" a/f gauge that im looking at until i get a safc. The datalogger includes rpm and coolant temp so thats why i didnt get a water temp gauge.

This is for "nightspeed87" and whoever else has an oil pressure gauge but, are these gauge mechanical as in oil lines running through the cabin? Or are they electrical? Also, where do you tap in for a oil pressure gauge?
