Which Way Flex Plate?

We have a 91 AWD Auto, with the Flex Plate off. We do not know if the "wings" fold towards the block, or away from the block. We had them positioned towards the block, and we think we blew a trans, and do not want to blow another one.

Any Help would be GREAT.

I will check, but I always thought the wings folded towards the block. If it was reversed, it would push the convertor into the pump and trash the pump.
