So I have run into a lot of problems lately that i dont want to think about anymore LOL. Another part i want/think i need to replace is my T-Stat. I searched a little and i really only found 3 sites that offer one for 91. This one from dsmparts, https://www.dsmparts.com/customer/product.php?productid=183&cat=12&page=&js=n, this one from SBR, Slowboy Racing, Inc. :: Mitsubishi :: DSM :: OEM Parts :: Cooling :: OEM Factory Replacement Thermostat Kit - 1G 90-94 Models, and this one from STM but its weird because it is a 160*(isnt that really low?), STM - DSM COOLING | RADIATOR | FANS | HOSES | THERMOSTAT. What would you choose or is there somewhere else that offers one that you would recommend?

The Stant Superstat at Adv Auto has worked well for me. I got the 160*, but I live in the south. Remember the number is when the Tstat starts to open. In reality, you end up running about 10* hotter than the Tstat rating on a stockish cooling system.

Ok yea I do remember reading about the Stant. I think I will call my local part suppliers and see what they have. There is also a place called rock auto that i have ordered some parts from. What is the difference between a regular t stat and a premium one?

Anyone know the difference between the premium and regulars?

Regular...well is regular. premium is when its got a override so it doesn't ever stick shut. But my last Stant 192 PREMIUM wasn't any better it had my car running at 209* or more. I ended up with the 180*, and the car runs well at 192*-189* now.

its supposed to have a bypass in case it gets stuck. thats the only difference. I found it does work. but if the thermastat is bad it kinda masks he problem of it being stuck.

So then getting the premium IS worth the extra two or 3 dollars then? LOL. And the 180* is the way to go for my 1g?

Your local Canadian Tire / Part Source, or even I think Walmart sells T-stats that will work for a DSM.

I run 2 different T-stats throughout the year, depending on the time of the year. Spring, summer, and fall I run a 160F t-stat, a colder engine in the summer is definitely the way to go. In the winter I run a 195F, for more heat and easily running during the cold months.

I will reply to this thread with some part #s when I go on Friday to grab my t-stat for the summer.

Also, always remember to get thermostat housing gasket maker, and an actual thermostat housing gasket. Apply a nice layer on both sides of the gasket, and tq. to spec.

Well i needed a tstat now so i went to my local autoparts international and picked up a premium stant 195* thermostat

160* huh? Will that temp set the ecu into closed loop? I'd like to see that in action myself I think.

I don't believe the temp decides if it stays in closed loop or not. It will decide if the ST fuel trim values get moved into LT fuel trims. I think a 1g is set at 182* but there are other criteria that needs met too.

Start-up idle enrichment is based on coolant temp, but that is controlled by the FIAV in the TB and I don't what temp that valve closes at.
