Quick question: Which way does my thermostat go?

Here is the pic. I just want to make sure that the nipple goes to the bottom like I have pictured. I stupidly have not bought a book for my car. I have been using this forum to answer all my questions but this question is not listed. Please don't make me look stupid. I am replacing my headgasket and while I am waiting for my head to come back from the machine shop, I figured I would do some preventive maintenance. I just forgot how the original came out.

Thanks,

Gil

The way that your thermostat is facing is the way that your going to want to install it. :thumb: Nice housing as well, nice and clean. :D :thumb:

The part I have circled is what I am concerned about. Is this supposed to be down or do I need to turn the thermostat around 180 degrees? I am pretty sure I have it right but wanted to double check

Look at the top portion of the housing assembly, this should tell you were that part goes.

I'm sorry to keep buggin you but I don't understand how the top portion should tell me. I will just wait to see if someone else knows exactly what way it goes. If not I will go get me a book tomorrow.

Thanks,

Gil

Here's two more pics. There is no notch for that nipple piece in either one of the housings.

You have it correct... Just dont let the t-stat rub on anything, it doesn't matter the placement of the part you circled.

install it with the jiggle valve at the top.

I think that is how mine was originally but I needed to confirm. I marked it but beadblasted my housings and forget which way. So do you know this for a fact?

Thanks,

Gil

99.9% sure. the chilton's manual says to install it with the jiggle valve pointing straight up. when I replaced mine, that's how the original one was positioned.

Thank you sir. That's what I wanted. You saved me some time.

that "jiggle valve" is a air bleed valve. Normaly you want it to be in the spot where it is highest, since air will seek the highest part.
