Which way does TB gasket go?

Fixing leaky TB gasket and the new one has a some effect on the inner rim. One side domes in a hair, while the other domes put a hair. Which side faces the TB?

Should I use RTV on both sides?

I believe it is supposed to dome towards Throttle body.
I would use RTV on both sides.

If you set it there see which way it likes to sit better.

See the bottom gasket? I assume that's what you're talking about, there's a little nudge on the bottom left of it, not the corner, but just inside of it. Line that up on the TB and you're set. The nudge on the TB should be on the top right area if its on the intake manifold.

Just use a little RTV on both sides to help it stick.

Gasket or RTV, NOT both.

If you just feel that you need a sealent, get some Non-Harding gasket maker by Pematex.

If the surfaces on both parts are in good shape, the gasket will do its job and seal.

I agree with the RTV. I had more trouble trying to get gaskets to seal so I gave up and just RTVd both sides.. Never had an issue since!!

If thats the case, the gasket is not needed, just use the rtv.

About the same as me asking why use both?

When you cover both sides of a gasket with RTV, to much is used, and it has to go somewhere, so it squishes out, and at times in, and ends up in places it should not be.

Also this can lead to over tighting of a thin flange part, and that can warp or break.

Did the factory use both?

Look at the oil pans on alot of import engines, even the 4g63, Just RTV seals it.
Most who know, when they get a ebay gasket kit, that comes with the oil pan gasket, it goes in the trash.
( I have about 10 on the wall that will never get used.)

There have been times when I have built an engine, I would have the paper gasket, and left it in the box, and just used RTV to seal the 2 parts.
302/5.0 ford timing cain covers, they rot and pit around the water ports.
SBC chrome timing covers
SBC intake end rail gaskets are thown away, and RTV is used.
More rear main seal plates than I care to think about.
Even in place of headder gaskets at times.

I used to sammich a gasket with RTV years ago, when I was a noob to rngine repair. Then In Vo-tech school, and again in the first machine shop I worked, It was always one or the other.

Look at about any good "Pro- built" engine..... Ever see a gasket sandwiched between RTV?

Makes sense. Thank you for that assessment. When I got my car, both of the TB gaskets were just RTV and with the hackjob the rest of the car was, I just replaced it with gaskets. My valve cover gasket is also JUST RTV. I guess as with many things, its more about the actual application rather than just the product its self.

I swear RTV is over used, and alot of people do not know where,when and how to use it.

***Tech Tip*** If you need to smear RTV, and do not want it to stick to your finger and make a mess, wet your finger with water or spit.

Great tip! . A write-up would be great. Probably prevent the RTV horror I'm dealing with..

I got the gasket in, needless to stay. I believe I domed it outwardly because it seemed to fit better than vice versa. I used a tad bit of RTV on BOTH sides. When I say a tad bit, I mean just enough to cover it, not as much as if I were using it alone as a gasket.

It was the last if my known boost leaks fixed and let me tell you, THE CAR RUNS LIKE A SCOLDED DOG!

Also I did thin up the RTV around the hole in the gasket so when I screwed everything back in tight it wouldn't mush out into the inside of the TB.

And before someone says it, yes I know I need to do another BLT to find any other leaks
