I have been posting a bunch here trying to find out and learn which turbo i would want to go with for my setup. Let me start out by saying that i am going to be using it only as a dd! i want to keep it reliable and safely tuned! having that said... i am trying to see which would probably be better to go with in order to get a high 13 second 1/4 mile and hopefully somehting like maybe 0-60 around 5 or so. i am not going to be taking it to the track or doing any drag racing at all. i just want a very fast nice ride LOL. would the best option be the evo3 or the bb 50 trim? or neither? I obvisouly would instal all the supporting mods for whichever turbo i do go with. Which would be best without extreme modifications? i plan do do all the normal upgrades(fuel, fmic, exhaust, safc etc) which setup would probably get me number around there? i dont know if this is bench racing but i just dont know what the equivelant h/p would be to state as my goal i would like to see. so mid if possible to high 13's or even around 14 1/4 mile i think i would be very pleased with. Are these unrealistic goals for a reliable dd? could this be acheived without too
much upgrading? would 300 horses give me those numbers possibly? or atleast the potential to get them with improved launches etc?

I really like to be able to be on the highway and then just take off already going like 60 or more? starting from a stand still is not as important but obviously would be nice(i know i have a gst so much harder but still would be nice).

ok well if poeple with personal experience or know what numbers get someone to that sort of a goal please let me know. It gets so damn frustrating to try and decide what would be best when it just turns into an A vs B debate! if poeple could just list more the benifets of each and which would get me where the best etc i would be very gratefull.

thanks alot ---ryan.

This thread is not about who did what on slicks, etc, etc. Keep on topic and keep the arguing to pm. Dont clutter this thread with useless info because the op never asked about an srt4 or whether he should get a 1g awd. ;)

Ok thanks for the info and i'm not switching cars to try to increase my speed!

I was wondering, would it help alot with launches and traction getting just an lsd insert? i know it wont be a real lsd like quaife or anything but for the price wondering if it would be worth it? having that along side an evo3? i think it seems like the evo3 is going to be plenty power for me right now. 11's and 12's is just crazy for what i am looking for right now. eventually maybe, but for now low or mid or even higher 13's i would be very pleased with. anyone running the evo3 now? does it for the most part keep pulling steady to redline? that is one thing i would really like to have.

In a word, yes. Short of trying to running more boost than the turbo can handle due to engine-outflowing-it-issues, yes.

Yes it pulls all the way to redline if tuned properly. A friend of mine has one on his 97 GST and it hits about as hard as the stock turbo but doesnt fall out at about 5000 RPMs. Yes an LSD is something that will be very helpful to you. It would probably be worth saving a little extra and buying a qualife.

20psi-gst the evo3 only hits about as hard as the t25? is it at stock boost? i was hoping it would hit a bit harder than that or is it just tuned all the way down on his? cause people here seem to be saying that i could get it going in the 13's if i wanted. i dont want to go through all the trouble to replace the turbo if i only gain top end! If someone here owns an evo3 setp gst let me know how it pulls and has top end.

Actually... most people with LSD's in FWD's think that the LSD should be the first thing you get. It's VERY useful.

And honestly, you could save up for a quaiffe or a KAZZ, but if you are tight on money then just go with the insert. It's cheaper and will keep you happy while you have that 16g.

Ok thanks slipstream808. I think i will go with the instert for now as it is only a couple hundred bucks and i'm sure it will be much better than without. would the one from sbr.com be a prety good insert to go with? i want to buy one from a known vendor not just off some strange ebay store.

i have a big 16g (not evo III) , ported manifold, evo 3 O2 housing, full 3 in exhaust, a front mount with hard pipes, and a dejon tool intake, and at 12 psi in my auto tsi (fwd) i run 13.7 in the 1/4. I dont have any fuel system modifications yet, but if thats the time range you want you could probably run even faster in a 5-speed with fuel system and proper tuning

When i say hits i mean like if you take off from a 40 roll in second and punch it. I could break my T25 loose with my stock 16inch wheels on. But i was running 20psi with the gain turned up on my Greddy Profec B. He runs 18-19psi on his manual which i dont know how much the electronic helped me (if any). But a 40 roll on the 16g WOULDNT break the wheels loose, but it felt as if it were about too. When you get boost it hits hard but nothing that is going to put on a smoke show. If your only shooting for 13's i wouldnt even bother with an LSD. Ive not taken the car to the strip with my new setup but ill be hoping for 7.90's and im still on stock axles and clutch with no LSD. But thats just me. 7.90's in an 8th is high 11's in a quarter.

Intake, exhaust, exhaust manifold ported/evo III,ported o2 housing or evo III,16g, evo VIII 560cc injectors or aftermarket,Walbro 190, SAFC or keydiver chip, good tires along with your LSD should get you a really fun DD and more then enough onramp power. I would also consider a FMIC setup so you can floor it more then a couple of times if need be and still remain good efficiency. A nice street clutch like a ACT 2100 and a nice spring/shock or coil over combo should complete your car rather nicely. This is my DSM DD list as my goals are similar to yours, exept I have a 1g and it's awd. I think this will make for a well balanced car between power and reliability and will be able to pose a threat to most of your run of the mill/basic bolt-on muscle cars and powerfull sport compacts you normally see on the street every day. A couple more suspension mods and you've got a nice time attack/ road course car that you
can drive to work every day. Exept for when it breaks, because lets face it, it's still a dsm.LOL. my 2psi.
