So I just put my punishment fmic on and now that I can actually drive my car without worrying about blowing off an intercooler pipe, my o2 mounted tial mvs is getting crazy hot and it melted my stock AC fan. I haven't noticed my temp gauge moving any higher than normal, so I doubt I'm overheating. Would anyone here be able to show me where to get another OEM AC fan? I searched, but I can't find any specifically for a 95 2.0L turbo manual car (I'm not sure if there's a difference between manual or auto fans or turbo and non-turbo fans, so I want to be sure it's going to fit). Or if anyone has a suggestion on a better fan to get to replace the stock AC fan.

Also, I'm thinking about doing this: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/151319397-post11.html
in order to avoid melting any more fans. If anyone has any other suggestions like a coating or a wrap or something to prevent this from happening in the future, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I checked but couldn't find anything in the classifieds in terms of a stock AC fan and ebay has a lot but they all say direct replacement for different part numbers. I don't know the part number of my AC fan so I really don't want to just guess and buy something for $60-$70 only to have it not fit. I haven't checked any junk yards yet though, because I haven't been home to. I'm away at school in Philly, so next time I go home for the weekend, I'll probably do some searching there.

Did you search it or did you look at the ads, because a lot of the ads say to pm them because they might have because they don't want to list every single part.

I just searched and checked the ads honestly, I didn't even think to look at the part out ads. I'll try that.

Edit: So I sent out some PM's and hopefully I hear back. Now does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again? Would that fan toggle switch work? Or is there some sort of heatshield, coating, or wrap or something I can put over my o2 housing/wastegate that would be a better option?

That fan toggle switch might work but I would still do one of the other options you mentioned. Getting the piece thermal coated is the cleanest solution and looks the best but I'm not sure what you want to spend. Buying some header wrap is going to be the most cost effective solution but it can start to look kinda crappy after while...it does work well though.

You might also look into picking up a slimmer fan. I have a pair of 1360cfm Spal Slim Fans on my 2G. They move a ton of air and are much smaller than the stock fans

I wasn't questioning if you search it or not. I was wanting to know if you only typed it in the search box. I was hunting for a 91 awd tcu and I pm anyone that had could of had one, no one had one listed. And for your question, I am not sure of what the switch would do.

I actually figured that switch would be a lot easier than trying to wire something up and bring it into the cabin from the engine bay. And as for the Spal fans, are they hard to wire? My main fan still works so there isn't a reason to get rid of it. I want something that I can use the stock mounting points with, too. I read in another post that the zip-tie things that go through the radiator aren't the best in the long run as they tend to move with vibration and damage some of the fins. Has anyone ever really wrapped a wastegate before? The Tial mvs is a strange shape to wrap...

I didn't realize that it was your actual WG that was melting the fan, I thought it was your WG piping that was the problem. That is gonna be tough to wrap...I think the Spal fan is your best bet.

The fans are simple to wire up, just power and ground. I suppose you could use the stock wiring but the fan probably won't be getting the juice it needs. I just used the stock power wire to trigger a relay and so that I could use 10 gauge wire coming directly from the battery to power the fans.

You can have someone fabricate you something super simple out of aluminum strips if you want to utilize the stock mounts.

I had the same problem with my stock fans and i replaced them three times. I decided to get mishimoto fans and they havent melted since and i have done two 300 mile trips with them.

Just my .02

i've got a slim line mishimoto fan assembly coming from s&r. supposed to be plug & play. i already have the radiator. but on the hubby's car he melted one fan completely and the other fan (on the passenger's side) was still intact and the only one on the car for a good while. i double checked to make sure it would plug right in like the stockers, because i honestly don't feel like wiring anything. seems pretty simple and not a bad price on them either.

Is that slimline you're referring to the 2 fans/shroud package? I would probably get that if I needed the 2, but my stock radiator fan is still perfect. I only really need one fan.

for those who want to see what happened, here ya go.

it is the whole deal, seeing as he really needed both. there's technically nothing wrong with the one fan he has, except the stock ones are just a hair too big. i hate how much room these cars DON'T have :\

I have both factory fans, I replaced mine with slims(had to, new turbo's wastegate actuator wouldnt let the passenger side fan fit back in) I cut off and used both plugs but the fans worked fine before removal, PM me if your interested.

I bet if you just replace the fan with a stock one and just rewire it to runn full time it should be okay.

I actually tried that the ghetto way and it worked. I did a few highway pulls with my A/C on just to keep the fan moving and there were no signs of melting. Granted, the blade I cut off made my car shake like crazy, it did seem to stop the melting. That's why I want to use that toggle switch. Splicing into the 2 ECU pins seems a lot easier than wiring it in the engine bay and then finding somewhere to bring it into the cabin, but I'm just guessing. I don't know any other way to wire the A/C fan to keep it on all the time.

I don't know if it is the right way and I'm not sure how much the wiring differs in our cars, but I have my ac fan, which is a mishimoto fan, wired in with my cooling fan. So they come on and go off together, but I did mine that way for cooling reasons.

Alright, so after doing some hunting, I came up with a few ideas. I'm not sure if any of them will work however or even if they're worth trying. I was thinking I could try to wrap my external wastegate, but due to the odd shape I highly doubt it will be effective (I don't know if anyone has tried this before), then there is the PTP turbo blanket that I read will fit on a 16g turbo as seen here:
PTP Turbo Blankets - (512) 490-6494

Now with that I'm not sure if I can rig it up for around the wastegate or if I should just try and put it around my turbo to see if that would help. It's kind of expensive just to try though. And finally, I found this product made by ThermoTec called a micro louver air shield. What it is exactly I really don't know, but it looks like it can be used as a type of mold-able heat shield. I'm not quite sure how I would attach it to anything or even if it would work, but here is the link:
Thermo-Tec : Micro Louver Air Shield

And finally, I could just wire a switch following the article on VFAQ to keep both fans running so my A/C fan doesn't sit still to melt anymore. I'm thinking I may just go this route, but I'm not sure if it will be enough and I'd really hate to melt another A/C fan. Any input would be much appreciated.
