I know this has been posted a few times on here before but I have more of a specific question than everyone does about the Awd vs. Fwd...I know about the great Awd Launch and all...and have read up about the Gst beating it from a roll but as I've said I have a specific question. Locally I have found 2 2g dsms that seem right for me...let me post the pro's and con's for each...and you guys tell me which one you'd go for...
Well first I found a 95 gst here, it's just had a fresh paint job done (pretty cheap one but looks good as of now) and it's black (like that color very much on cars). Not to mention that it has a 97+ body conversion. The biggest plus I see on this car is that it has a 6 bolt transplanted in it (40k or so on it - but I would doubt those are original miles). It has a Big Evo III 16g, inc. piping, intake, tt, arp head studs, . Problems are it needs new struts, a new door lock actuator, and it has a small grind in third (he says this grind is a result of replacing the aftermarket pressure plate that he had on there with a stock one..says he probably misaligned something). He replaced both lower control arms and ball joints recently.
Then there's the 95 tsi awd I found here locally. It's green with that typical black spoiler (not the greatest look). It has a Buschur Racing 16g (still need to know which one that is small big evo 3 if you guys know let me know thanks), J-pipe, inc piping, a 1g Bov, Act 2600 clutch, Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump, Boost controller, K&N intake, and adjustable cam gears. The problems include cut springs (not really a problem because he is replacing them before I go check it out), no a/c (needs new compressor clutch) and has a slight crack in the bottom of the bumper. He recently rebuilt the transmission completely, and brake pads are new etc (he supposedly bought the car with a bad tranny)
Both Cars are leather, and both cars are in the same price range (there is very little difference in the pricing).
I really don't know which way to go. I first was notified of the gst being for sale so I was pretty confident in purchasing that one, as I like the color etc. But then I was like for the same money I can get the power of Awd... When I contacted the owners the gst owner seemed to know a decent amount about dsms, the owner of the tsi awd...didn't seem to know much about dsms in particular.
If you guys can help me it would be appreciated...I know the best way to start with a dsm is to buy one that's unmodded, and has no problems, but I needs something within my price range as well and these two cars are reasonably priced.
Let me know what you think and I thank all those that took the time to read all of this in advance thanks.
