I am building a full race car i have used HKS 272 on all the cars on my shop and all work fine giving over 32hp y am planing on installing on the shop car some 276's from webcam or Crower's Stage III remember this is for a race car wich cams would you guys preffer or have heard that do a better job? :dsm:

ForcedPerformance has the new fp4's out. The fp1's and fp2's are more of a street cam and the fp3 and fp4's are there "race cams".

i personally run FP 3's in my 2.3 stroker and LOVE em.... they are way noticably larger lope and i can tell the difference in the performance on the stroker with the new cams in.. alot more mid to top end than fp2's.. but the FP3's are a perfect match for the 2.3 and the FP 4' are for the 2.4 according to Cory at FP

The FP3's and FP4's are geared towards the bigger displacemnt engines. If he is running a 2.0L these might not be the cams he wants.

I was thinking of his race motor being stroked. I've heard one local guy has them on his 2.0 and he says they still make good power mid and top end but his idle is very lopey. He said he wouldn't have it any other way.

Well my race motor is 2.0lt i dont want to increase it i prefer the 2.0lt displacement.
i have the following mods:
ROSS 8:5.1 pistons over .020 bore
Carrillo Connecting Rods
Race Ported Head With 1mm oversized valves
Race Springs and Retainers
Forrester Intake Manifold
Equal Lenght Tubular Custom Header for T4
44mm Tial Wastegate
GT40 turbo with Custom Specs.
80mm Throthle Body
3" intercooler pipes with "monster race core"
1600cc injectors
custom 10-an fuel rail
dual Bosch fuel pumps
5gal Fuel cel
and etc......
y will be running NOS and about 35Psi of boost
Wich cams would be good?

WEB CAMS
or
CROWER
or
FP4's

For that combo I would go with the HKS 272s on the intake and the exhaust side. They are proven race cams so why reinvent the wheel when thats what works.

I hope everyone who is posting replies with advice in this thread has tried more than one set of aftermarket cams. The question is which cam do you prefer. If you have not tried multiple cams, you are probably not qualified to give an answer. I know I haven't tried more than one so I can't post from experience. Post from experience, not from hearsay please.

Like others have said, avoid web cams. I had a set in my 'Busa and it didn't run well, and I have friends who have broke them.

I would run the FP4's for a full out race car. The FP3's are proven 20 WHP and 30 ft-lbs over FP2's, and FP2's are just as good if not better than the 272's. Makes sense that if FP3 > FP2, FP2 = or > HKS 272, and FP4 > FP3, then the FP4's are a better choice than the HKS 272's for a race car.

Another case of misinformation! All Webcams for the 4g63 are new not regrinds! A 2 second search of their website will tell you this but people are just in too big of hurry to tell you how bad they are because HKS is the popular cam. Check the specs and app notes or call the company and talk to someone that knows what works and what don't. They have specialist on hand to recommend something for you. You can also check my profile and gallery. I have my dyno sheet of my Webcam 453/228 equipped engine. Note that it made 517 HP at only 6500 rpm when we had to stop for coolant leak problems. These cams do pull to 9000 rpm though.

Another case of I ran them, didn't like them, and Web treated me like crap after I bought stuff from them. I don't see any reason to run Web's where they're content to ignore you when Forced Performance sells great cams, have great customer service, and are loyal to the DSM community.

Jun stage 3 cams are a good agressive cam. You might also want to check out Piper cams. They make a wide variety of cams for the 4g63. I will be installing a set of there 320's into my 2.4.

I am with him... I have always been a HKS girl. They've been tried and proven and work fine for me.

HK$ is alright, but FP really does seem to be out performing them, and for less money. FP2's are an awsome street cam. you can go bigger if you want too. but expect to need stronger springs for the increased ramp rates of the bigger cams (fp3's and fp4's)

Since it's an all out race car I would go with a set of Crane Cams. We gained a good amount of power using these cams over the HKS and the Webb cams. We have been using the Crane for over a year and do not plan on changing them anytime soon.
