FP3X cams,,,,what do you guys think

The FP2X and 3X have to same duration. Both have no over lap over 0.050" lift. The 2X shows more overlap from 0.0" exhaust lift to 0.0" intake lift, but when the 3X DOES exhibit overlap, its ramp rates yield higher lift when "overlapping". The second probably has more influence on idle and performance. Probably better to hunt down a 2.0 FP3X member. . .

Dsm-onster, with the fp2x cams do you have any problems with stalling? What vacuum at idle do you see and at what rpm do you have your idle set at? I'v been struggling for years to get my webcams to idle and not stall. The only thing that seems to help is reducing the overlap with my cam gears. I'm wondering if I'll experience the same things with the fp2x cams. The webcams make my car pull like a 2-stroke dirt bike but their driveability makes me hate them. I'm hoping the fp2x cams give me the best of both worlds.

I just took my Car out today after Installing FP2x's along with a Magnus SMIM and a bunch of other goodies.

The car can Idle at 750 but it gets a little rough, I turned it up to 850 just to smooth it out.

Also I can stick the clutch in at any rpm and it won't stall, it just drops to a normal idle just like a stock car... I was pleasently surprised.

PS the power up top is disgusting...its a shame that i'm stuck with the 7500 rpm rev limit, the car is just begging for more.

Yes. My setup seams to prefer 850 rpms as well.

Overlap in turbo applications usually detracts from top end where you have more potential volume flow. It definately inceases idle issues.

Are the dyno numbers we see w/ the Magnus SMIM and 50 trim? I would definately like to see new dyno results if you can manage to get to one.

You can make more than the bottom end can take with fp2s/272s and keep the stock springs/retainers.
And I could make more than the stock bottom end can hold with stock 90 turbo cams, what's your point?

hes saying, using any of those cam applications you are going to be able to make more power than the bottom end can handle...the potential of the car will be able to go further than what it can handle

No that's with a totally stock head down to the TB...really low reading dyno also :thumb:

Hopefully sometime this summer I'll hit the dyno again.

But on my test run after turning the boost down a few psi I hit 2520hz of airflow, last year I would see around 2300 with a little higher boost, So i deffinitly picked up some airflow...and I haven't even started tuning yet.

Yea, after my cam swap to FP2Xs, even w/ my stock 1g intake and head, she felt like when I was running 20 psi w/ my 18g though I was running 15 psi w/ the same turbo. I never tweaked my tune. I did raise my rev limit.

I was wondering If it would be ok to use my crower springs and retainers with the fp2x cams? The fp dual spring kit is on back order. I don't plan on revving past 8500rpms.

The revving doesn't seem to be the determining factor here as much as the ramp rates.

I run Manley singles and stock retainers to 8500 rpms. . . The questions are:

Is the seat and compression pressures of the crowers the same or close to the Manley?

And, if not, will the lightened retainers be enough to allow the assembly to function fine regardless?

I don't know the answers to those questions. . .

If it were me, I'd leave her at the stock revlimit until you upgrade springs or get satisfactory answers to your questions, because I'm sure you don't want to tear into the head to replace valves, seats, guides, etc. ... I don't mind experimenting w/ my car because she's not my DD anymore. But she's down more than running it seams:notgood: .

well i just got off the phone with Forced Performance, again they did assure me that i could run the 3x in my 2.0 with no problems, it would just give me more mid range power than top end, he recomended the 2x for higher power range. Same goes with the FP3, more mid range power, so i will stick with the 2x
So FP claims the 3x cams will give more midrange and less topend compared to a 2x? This is kinda confusing, considering how much more lift the 3x has. I would think it would be the other way around. But if FP says so I guess they know what the 3x will do.

See here.

I don't know who Rizz is but he made 585whp and 450ft/lbs on a stock 6-bolt bottom end running 32psi.

That's me. :) And that motor is the original, never rebuilt, stock shortblock. I have been racing the car for 11 seasons, over 600+ runs. The car has been into the 10's for the last two seasons.

Maybe it's a freak, but I still think people buy " race motors " WAY to soon now a days. ;)
Oh ya, this motor has 272's and Crower springs/retainers ( too keep on subject ). But I am considering a race head and FP2X cams to go along with the BR Stage III block that is collecting dust waiting for the stocker to go. :rocks:

They said the fp3x's provide more midrange power because they are built for the strokers, wich obviously cant rev as high as us 2.0's, so why build cams they will produce power where the stroker motors wont be going.

Well the FP3Xs provide more overlap. Even though the intake cam retard is a bit more than the FP2Xs (which would indicate potentially higher VE at higher rpms), perhaps the overlap is enough to make the difference; as overlap usually slights upper rpm power while significantly increasing spool and midrange flow.
