where to run amp wires

I am about to complete my system for my car. I already have xplod door speakers and I just ordered an amp for the door speakers and Im going to get a sub and amp soon. My question is that if I mount my amps somewhere in the trunk where should I run my power wire and speaker wires so that I wont get any static in the sound? Im thinking about running the power wires through the center console and then running the speaker wires down the sides of the car back to the speakers. Would this be a good idea and if it is what would be the best way to run the power wire through the console? I wouldnt mind some pics of your amp setups in the trunk. Thanks for all of the help!

If you plan on multiple amps, make sure to get a distrobution block, put an inline fuse in each power wire (i like to use circuit breakers, cheaper and easier in the long run) Also depending on your needs, a capacitor and high output alt my be needed as well.
And make sure to have a good place to ground to. Avoid running anything along side the power wires, this includes speaker wires, RCA's etc.

I normally run my power on one side, and signals on the other as casey mentioned. Also with our cars a nice place to mount to is the rear seat. That way you don't interfere with your trunk space more then needed, and you can simply pull the wires from the sub box and remove it if you ever have to, and just leave everything else in place.

Make sure to either put in rubber gromets when you get a hole for the power wire, or push them through some already existing ones so you don't cut into the cable, because that won't be a good time.

I ran power down the passenger side. I drilled a larger than 4ga hole in the firewall on the pass side right next to the "frame" Wires ran down the door well. I ran signal down the middle tunnel/console, and right under the rear seat straight to the amp. I mounted the distribution block on the back of a rear folding seat. I ran all the wires under the spare tire "cover panels" and let them come up through the factory holes at the rear corners of the carpet in the trunk.

The signal wires I used were pretty cheap name brand. something like street wires or stinger or something. they are all twisted inside to reduce signal interference and magnetic "noise" I have no noticeable noise in my sub woofer.

Dont get monster cables. total waste of money especially when your more efficient options do the same job.

I dont think that you guys are getting which amp/speakers Im talking about. Im not concerned about the sub getting interferance because it will be in the trunk. Im concerned about the speaker wire running from the amp to the speakers in the doors and in the rear panels because no matter how I set it up I will have to run the wires back down both sides of the car to get to the speakers.

Why not mount the door speakers amp in the stock location beneath the passenger seat?

Otherwise, I have always run power down one side and all my rca, signal wires down the other side.
If you play on running more than one amp, a distribution box is a preferable addition to the setup.

The door speaker wires should not come in contact with the power wire. The power wire will most likely run along the floor. The speaker wires should be higher to get through the loom to get into the door. Should not be an issue. Also, unless you are spending thousands of dollars on sound equipment and chasing very high db records. It should affect your system at all.

Since my battery was relocated to my trunk, I had my power wire run from my battery in the truck right to the amp and my ground was a bolt used on a cross bar to hold the battery down. I then ran my Remote shutoff, and RCA's from my deck through the center console part and under the carpet, under the seats and back out to hook up into my amp. Pretty clean setup in my opinion


The way you are planning on using is a pretty good setup. There shouldn't be any interference when you run the power wires through the console. Id say bundle them and run them all through the center console

Pick a side, any side. Just make sure that whatever side has power, the opposite has RCA's and speaker wires. Very simple.

To make it not look like its thrown in there take the front seats out lift up the carpet and run it under the carpet. then take the bottom half of your back seat out and run it into the hatch area. thats how i did it when i worked for car-tunes. made the install clean and do not buy the cheap walmart amp kit. because the RCA cables are junk and youll get alot of road noise from them i'd suggest getting a nice stinger audio set from your local audio store. you pay a little more but the sound quality is subperb

I am also having a problem setting up a sound system in my 1996 talon. My problem though isn't where to run any of the RCA/speaker/amplifier cords, but rather where to run my power cord from the amplifier in the trunk up to the battery. I can't seem to find a reliable place to drill a hole on the firewall. Any suggestions where exactly this is best?

Run them down the same side, together, as the RCA cables. Then just run them to the dash and tie them into the stock wiring for the speakers. No need to run new wires to the doors or anything

Minus the fact that stock wiring blows and you might as well not upgrade your system if you aren't upgrading all the wiring.

I used the bolts underneath the rear seats as a ground, nice short ground wire. I ran the power straight back underneath the carpeting and underneath the rear seats, then ran the audio wires along the passenger side, where there's less foot traffic to possible agitate them(they're underneath the carpeting, but still). And i have a amp mounted underneath my seats to power the component speakers, uses the other bolt under the rear seat for ground, and all the speaker wires run off the harness down the right side, tucked into the center console, the run underneath the carpeting, 3M double side taped down and up through the factory cut hole directly the amp. the power wire is tucked on the left side of the center console, run underneath the carpet on the opposite side of the amp.
