Ive been looking in the classifieds for 2 weeks People keep beating me to them LOL
I have a big 16g now but the oil feed hole is stripped out. I was thinking of moving up to a 20g? I have an 89 Mirage 4g61T with evo 3 manifold full 3" exhaust 1050cc fic injectors fmic dsmlink tuned on e85. I am kind of restricted to a 16g style turbo because of the amount of room or lack there of in the engine bay. Would a 20g be better than an e316g in my little car?

The threads are pretty messed up. Its been tapped by the PO and he tapped it crooked and a bigger size. I may be able to have it drilled and tapped for a bigger -4 fitting? The turbo works awesome besides that. I have it off the car right now to replace the turbine inlet gasket. I made the mistake of using the ffwd copper gasket and it melted and blew out.

stm, just got my evo 16g for 744 shipped. best price i could find anywhere right now. and jusmx said hes busy as hell lately. i tried getting a refurb from him first but it was a no go. but for 744?? its way better just to buy new

$750 is still to much imo. You can get a used bb turbo for the price. I would Probly Pay $600 tops for a new e316g

Yeah its pretty ridiculous how much they are new. Look on cragslist as well and just wait for a deal to come up and snag it

Im going to take my turbo to the machine shop tomorrow and see if they can drill it and tap it for a bigger fitting. If Not I may have to bite the bullet and Pay $750 Im really impatient when it come to this stuff. I just want to drive the car LOL

Do you guys think a 20g would be better for 1/4 mile racing than the e316g?

im a noob, but yes, i think with the right cams a 20g would def be faster than a 16. more cfm is all im looking at. more power. i hear ya, im impatient as all hell but these dsms will FORCE you to learn patience LOL. ive just ordered another 1500 worth of go fast goodies but now am forced to WAIT some more LOL. gotta love em!

I'm aware new members cannot post there, but the pricing and sources hasn't really changed.

If the only problem with your turbo is the stripped thread on the inlet, it can easily be repaired but you may have to abandon an OEM-style oil line to do so. Still cheaper than a new turbo.

If you're going to get this repaired, I don't recommend a machine shop as the turbo MUST be fully disassembled before any drill bits or taps get anywhere near the oil inlet. That being said, I'm not sure I'd trust an automotive machine shop for turbocharger repair.

Why not get a garrett t28 bro for 700 bucks. I hear those produce wayyy more than the mhi big 16g. Just my own .02 cents

Whoever told you that was completely wrong.

I guess .02 of a cent isn't worth as much as it seems.

I dont see why a piece of rag could stuffed in the hole and then drilled and tapped

ANY metal which enters the turbo doesn't leave- it will get lodged in the thrust plate's single oiling hole where it dams up even smaller particles and eventually completely obstructs the oil's flow to the thrust plate. Not to mention the oil supply hole itself isn't that deep...you'll need to drill practically to the bottom before you'd get an oversized tap in there.

I hear that! I may just sell this turbo as a core and buy a new one?

I don't see the point in spending $700 to end up with the exact same *working* turbo that you have right now; one which could have the threads on the oil inlet repaired and possibly some new journal bearings and seals installed for good measure with around $150 spent.

I just ordered a brand new chra for my big 16g for $470 shipped. A little pricey but better than $750 for a new one.

The description of the chra I bought from turbochargers.com says its a Mitsubishi Evo 3 Big 16G TD05H CHRA. Hope it fits in my big 16g compressor housing

STM does not have e3 16gs. ordered mine last week, paid 744, got email this morning they are out and have no eta on mhi turbos. guess im fuct. or im upgrading to a 68hta if itll fit the same as a 16. those are 1200 tho, good god this car is breaking my back! over 10k in now i think
