where to buy an alternator for my awd tsi 96

Anyone know where I can buy an affordable alternator for my 96 tsi awd? My car was acting funny losing power and such then the battery light came on and it died on me. I charged the battery up, put it back in, and when I was driving it the lights went dimmer and eventually the car cut off on me. So I suspect it's the alternator. Also are the alternators for the gsx, gs-t, and tsis all the same, or is it different for the awd?

you should take your atenrnator to autozone or advandance auto have them test it for free. and if its bad buy one from them.

Have it tested first just to be sure it's not some other electrical issue. I had alternator woes a couple months ago and if I had to do it all over again I would have gone to the damn junkyard and pulled one.

Reason being, I went through FOUR (meaning I'm on my fifth one now) autozone reman alternators.

So I would recommend going to a junkyard and pulling one. Change it out right in the parking lot if you can, that way if it's a dud you can take it right back in to them and try another.

Are the alternators the same from 95-99 up for all turbo talons and eclipses?

yes as long as it has the 4g63 engine it will fit. Do not get an alternator out of a rs or gs

That's not true. I dunno about the 2gs, But on 1gs, the AWD Alternator has a wider bracket than the FWD model.

Get a better, larger powered alternator .. I currently run their 135amp alternator after I went through 3 yes 3 different autozone alternators after my OEM one died. Same price as OEM might as well get a higher capacity. And they have a Life time warranty. Spend the money do it right once. It solved any power issues I was having.
