Where do I find info on the REAL basics?

Lots of information here but so far I haven't found the historical stuff. Like what are the differences in a 6 bolt and 7 bolt motor. I know a 4 bolt 350 refers to main bearing caps... not sure what a 6 bolt DSM motor refers to though.

Another question that came up was in the middle of 92 they changed something in the motor. I think it was in April? Haven't found that either. My car was built September 91.

If there's a resource here I missed or something outside the forum for the mechanical history of the cars it would be helpful.

I'm slowly plodding through searches to try and find out what all the acronyms mean too. Rarely written out so time consuming to find.

Hey moderator??? Just an opinion but I think this link is something that could really be useful as a sticky on the NEWBIE forum.

Just starting into this, without knowing what all the terminology and acronyms mean it's really difficult to determine what's applicable to my car and what isn't.

I see the link there. There are so many answers on that site it would be great to have it right up on top of the newbie forum. At least something in the newbie introduction mentioning it.

There's a huge amount of information on this site. I just need to get the background info down before it will click.

Flywheel bolts... now I can honestly say I learned something new today.

Oh to have known this back in 2000 when I had a 1990 1G GSX with 85k miles on it. The plastic handles broke off, making me have to climb through my hatch to get in my car, and then the clutch went out on the highway. I was 2 weeks from getting sent to a base in Korea and I was so pissed at the car I called a junk yard and told them they could HAVE the car, just tow the b*tch for free!

Goddamit I could have parted it out for loot!! :beatentodeath:
