Hey guys you probably get this all the time, either way, i'm at a stand still. I've been working the graveyard at work so i have tons of time to read the forums right now but i've been reading and don't know where to go. I have the basic bolt ons downpipe, hi-flo cat, 3inch exhaust cut out, hack and slashed can w/k-n filter, mbc and boost gauge. haven't done the piping looking into it. I'm looking at getting more than 15 lbs of boost. But am broke:( . now i've been reading and everything from here seems to be more tuning than anything. Now which way should i go, i'm going to open my cpu and see if it's eprom this weekend. i've been looking at ds-map, dsm-link ,afc, eventually my goal is about 400lb/ft tq at the wheel and whatever hp that comes with some where in the high 3's. :laser: :rocks: what do you guys suggest. and i'm probably putting on a 2g mas soon as well hit me up thanks
:beatentodeath: beat that bi*** *edit*did i mention i pay my own tuition so i have limited fund allocated to the cause*

i know tq breaks things but i like my inertia. Also hitting 400lb of tq is a lot less than hitting 400 hp LOL. I race quite a bit on the street, Is it just me, or does anyone else just hit about 4500 rpm and shift and still win i think i really haven't gone beyond 5000 rpm LOL......2g mas and afc it is i

You said you were broke, and fuel injectors and pumps and tuning are going to cost a little bit more money at the pump.

Actually with a good tune he wont loose to much gas mileage unless he is always at WOT. If I was you I would get the following in order. WBO2 so you can make sure afr's are in order at all times. Then a logger so you can see knock and a lot of other things. Then some type of fuel management. Dsmlink would be the best but if your on a budget at least an safc if you want to make some power.

Gentlemen,
I am the TOONAH, the Big Kahuana of all things technical. If 'beniger's' 1990 Laser has over 100K on the motor I would recommend rebuilding the internals before trying to force 400 HP out of the poor thing or it might end up in the DSM graveyard. The thing that amazes me about a lot of you younger tooner chappies is that any 4 banger with high miles is not worth souping up. Wasting money is not cool. Do yourselves a favor and start with the basics. True DSM racers are willing to trash a $10K motor just to be the fastest.
But asking a tired old 4G63 to do 400 HP with some add on mods is not realistic.
OK you can shoot me now!

I disagree with this. My brother has had his 90 TSi for almost 8 years now. Has over 200k on the clock. He got it around 120k and we think the motor was swapped/rebuilt at some time before because it had good compression and the 13b off the auto. So something happened before he got it.

He ran it for most of the years at around 320whp on pump gas at 20psi and 17* timing. For the last two years he has been running e85 at 30psi and 24* timing. No problems at all. He rebuilt the head about a year ago and resused the valves. The only reason he built it was due to a blown HG.

6bolts are like tanks, you cant take it out with a hand grenade. If you have good compression I would mod the hell out of it. 90% of times when a dsm motor goes its from detonation, lack of fluids, lean afr's, ect..... Just people not maintaining there car, or tuning correctly.

He is not looking for 400HP. He is wanting 400lb/ft torque.

Thanks i know where i stand damn i wish had cash. i guess boosting at 15 isn't bad for now till i can get a wb and afr have logging equip already. (anyone want to trade some short track special for anything?)
