Hi all,
I recently purchased a 91 talon with the turbo. When I drove it, I could never feel the turbo give any power and the guy said it just needed some more boost fluid. He told me to look at the guage, and when I gave it some gas, it never reached boost and he said that meant it was empty. He didn't want too much for it and it was a 5 spd (what I wanted) so I bought the car for $2300 and got it home. Well the next day I looked around forever, but could not tell where I need to fill back up the boost. I saw some lines going into the turbo, so I am pretty sure that is where it needs to go.
The only problem now is that I cannot seem to find any of the fluid at my local auto parts stores. Most of them have never heard of anything like it and one other place said they no longer carried it. Is this something I have to get at the dealer?

Anyways, if you can help please reply, I can't wait to start using the turbo again:D

Did the mechanic pull the turbo already? If so that makes your job a lot easier.

Just make sure to replace ALL of the crush washers and gaskets when doing the turbo swap, don't reuse any of them. make sure that you don't overtighten the banjo bolt for the oil feed on the head (if you removed it) if you overtorque it could strip the threads and leak. Check your exhaust manifold for cracks, small ones are ok ( it happens,) but if it has large ones replace it. If you have to replace it, get a 2G or Evo lll manifold instead they flow better and aren't prone to cracking like the 1G.

What did you pay for the 16G from Turbochargers.com? Is it a Small 16G or a Big 16G? Good luck and ask us for help if you get stuck.

All for now,
Joe

All though I do not have in depth knowledge of Turbo'ed DSM's I have a few words of advice

to: LoUd91tsiFWD- If you have aspirations of doing work on your car your self I suggest the following:

1. Run over to your mitsu dealer and buy the FACTORY REAPIR manual for your vehicle. Chilton's is good for mechanical repairs but usually misses indepth information on elec. and fuel injection systems

2. Look in the mirror and say to your self that you will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER let this #@%#@%#@%#@% happen again. Your are not blameless in this chain of events but nor are you a complete dumbass. Take everything said to you about a car with a bit of salt (espescially if you've never heard of it before).

3.You must research a vehicle before you buy it!! What if the car you bought had a recall on it becuase it blows up when you push the pedal to the floor more than three times an hour!! (just an example) Youd've been fvcked.

To the forum:
I also agree that the seller needs a beating!!!!! I'm sorry nobody needs take advantage of anybody like that. That's some of the problem in the stock market right now. People lying about how well they or thier product are doing. people need to get over hiding their #@%#@%#@%#@%-ups and take some god damn responsibility!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everybody!!!

congrats loud. You dont need that mechanic. I'm not saying anything bad about him because he was able to diagnose the problem. Its just his choice not to work on it. I think you may be able to do the swap yourself. If you have a manual boost controller or get one make sure not to turn the boost above about 15 or 16 psi until you do some supporting mods. In time, you'll be able to use that new turbo to its full potential. Good luck with it all.

Hey man. I live in the Louisville KY area. If you need any help we'll be glad to give you a hand. At one time everyone asked the questions you are asking so don't worry about some of the rude comments made on here ( well I doubt we asked about 'boost fluid' heheeh :D) but like I said check out www.louisvillestreets.com or www.kyfbodies.org. I've been wanting to work on a turbo car so if wanna bring it up and polish off a few beers we can knock it out in a minumal amount of time.

Josh K.

That is very cool of you Josh, I hope he accepts your offer. It's always a good thing to have an extra set of hands present, especially if they have a clue.

Nice one. You might make a mechanic out of him yet.:D

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Josh thanks for the offer, but this is something now that if I do myself (after reading all these threads) that it will make me feel so good if I accomplish it on my own. I ended up getting the turbo for $599 off turbochargers.com. I will go ahead and buy new washers & gaskets since the mechanic has already taken everything apart. I already have the car back at my house and am just waiting on the parts to arrive. He was very nice about it and brought it back to me on one of his flatbed trucks.
Well I'm off to the dealer, hope they have the washers

I think having Josh there would be a good idea, even if he only there for moral support. It couldn't hurt. I think he also wants to learn about these types of cars cause he has a Stang. Besides, he said he would bring beer!

Good luck,
Joe

mmmmmm beer! Can't turn down beer!
Besides, if someone who works on cars is willing to be there, I say take them up on it. It can only be beneficial and you can still do all the work yourself.

Take advantage of the help. You will benefit in the long run.

And i don't think he was going to BRING the beer. If he his helping you out, I think you have to cover the refreshments.:D

Yes the person asking for help need to provide the beer and smokes(if applicable).

Later,

Take him up on the offer. If you have not done the free mods I am sure he could show you those. Also you can just shoot the Sh*t when you are done. :)

hahah does it matter who brings the booze and smokes as long as we all have fun? thought it would be more tactful to supply booze and smokes ^^;

p.s. smoking while working in the engine block or fuel systems might not be too smart

I only smoke on the deignated smoke breaks away from the car never over the engine.

Later,

I know I just couldn't make my reply signify that I was not being serious either. :D

Later,

You guys are making me look like I can't pull this off by myself:confused:
I think with a decent manual and some time, I can do it. I want to learn and I want to become the type who doesn't have to rely on someone every time I do something. I think of it as a challenge now, and I know some of you can imagine how I might feel if I DO pull it off.;)

But it is good to have someone ther who has done it before to give you tips to get done faster and help if you happen to get stuck. Plus it's alwasy more fun with a friend around to take a break and BS with.

again...

I'm sure you can do it yourself but it is always better to have someone there just in case. Even if they are just for moral support. And you never know when you'll need an extra set of hands.

I have had my GST for 4 years and only just started to mod her. I have worked on a number of cars over the years, but even to this day I always work with someone. You will find that they often know something that will help get the job done quicker and/or better. We are not saying you CAN'T do it on your own. We are saying if someone is willing to help, why not take them up on the offer. Yiou get some help from someone that knows what they are doing, you might learn something new. EVERYONE can learn something. Even the guys that have been doing this for years. They all say they still have stuff to learn.

And you also get to know someone in your area who is into cars. This isn't just about cars, there is a social side to it as well.

Any of you guys that are laughing are fxckin arse holes! I mean come on, you were not born with the knowledge of how shlt works! Its his first turbo car and he's now learning about it. And a few of you posted that you like the seller? What an ass hole!

loudtsi- Dude you need to listen to me-He played you so YOU PLAY HIM. Go to him and tell him you talked to an attornty about the car and he told you the states laws primit you to give the car back for xx days (make it up and make it believable) Then Tell him to give you some money back. If it fails go home and get your neghbor to call him and act like your lawyer! (I hope the seller isnt a lawyer!) Just try to get some cheese back from the chump! This dude needs to get his brakes cut or paint remover sparyed on his car!!!!! What a prick he straight up lied to your face a few times. I would have ran him over by now boost or no boost!

Have him check out the turbo and slip it in to drive and flop him over!

Or do the lawyer thing!
Or go online and find honey bee's for sale and put them in a box and send them to him! When he opens it the bees will sting him! Damn I got to do that to someone!

Good luck! At least you got it for a great price!

ok, i havent been to the newbe fourm in awhile, so i just spent the last 12 mins reading all of this. LOUD: listen to these guys, and take any help u can get, u can only learn more.dude, i love doing my work myself too, but i also dont hesitate to ask for guidence because i dont know nearly enough by myself. plus it always helps to have someone double check, because especialy when your doing a project involing expensive parts, u dont wana f-up, or miss obvoius stuff. it can happen. last week some might remeber a post where i smelled gas in my car and was on the verge of tearing my whole fuel system apart, when really i just spilled octane boost in the backseat (stupidstupidstupid.....).moral of the story: u want as many people there that no what there doing as possible, so u dont make costly, and sumtimes obvoius mistakes. o, and good luck with your new family member. word of advice, get used to pb+j and those little ramin noodle things.
