Hi all,
I recently purchased a 91 talon with the turbo. When I drove it, I could never feel the turbo give any power and the guy said it just needed some more boost fluid. He told me to look at the guage, and when I gave it some gas, it never reached boost and he said that meant it was empty. He didn't want too much for it and it was a 5 spd (what I wanted) so I bought the car for $2300 and got it home. Well the next day I looked around forever, but could not tell where I need to fill back up the boost. I saw some lines going into the turbo, so I am pretty sure that is where it needs to go.
The only problem now is that I cannot seem to find any of the fluid at my local auto parts stores. Most of them have never heard of anything like it and one other place said they no longer carried it. Is this something I have to get at the dealer?

Anyways, if you can help please reply, I can't wait to start using the turbo again:D

Well I guess you can say I am a very happy and proud person at the moment! As some of you may know, I got ripped on a deal with a blown turbo in the car I purchased and recently just bought a 16G turbocharger. Well I made the final checkover last night, and putting in another stud that broke off and........

SHE RUNS!!!

It feels great, I can't really compare power differences since I never boosted with the stock turbocharger. But my boost guage works again and is boosting 12psi happily

I am very pleased it all worked out and I didn't F*** anything up like I thought I might. WEll just thought I'd share the good news!

My boost only goes to 10psi until about 5000 rpm's then it moves up to 16 eventually... From what ive been told, that's not right. Only mods are big 16g turbo, larger fuel pump and straight pipe to exhaust, no manifold. I have no clue why it wont hit max psi until im about ready to shift.

The boost gauge in the car has nothing to do with the Turbo. That's why one of the first mods you get is any aftermarket boost gauge.
*If you boost gauge isn't working:
-Your MAS airflow sensor wire is unplugged or not working (This is what the "boost gauge" uses to GUESSTIMATE boost)
-Your gauge is broken.

Thanx,

Believe what you want, My sig is how I think of my car. It is loud, and I know it can be fast (when the turbo is working right) although I have not experienced the turbo yet, but I do know the 3" catback is loud. When I went to look at the car the first time, I had no idea what it had in it. They guy said it was turbocharged and is very fast, and I know turbos make vehicles faster. So what's to question?
Anyways back on topic

I feel like I should try and put the turbo on myself for the one reason that I do NOT trust any local mechanic in my area. I feel I am being ripped off and taken advantage of.
I read through the vfaq many times now, and I think I may be able to pull this off myself. IT looks like a simple bolt on process to me.
I already have an exhaust, should I get anything else for just a 16G upgrade? I heard that 16g's will give you 350 hp, whtat's the 14b give you?

seems like that motor is pretty beat up i doubt you will ever see 350hp in that engine.

Someone should make a book with all the great story posts across the internet. Its got to have this thread, that one off of stangnet, and i think there was a big one on the rx7 forums. Every time i read one of these it brings a tear to my eye

Boost fluid .....OMG yeah you have to pore it in the fuel tank LOL.
Did it have WORP SPEED ? or Dilithiam Crystles to power the car?

How to refill boost fluid...

1. buy fluid at PepBoys (ricers R' us)
2. shake bottle well
3. open bottle and remove your cigarette lighter (or any other contraptions that might be plugged into it e.g. radar, light.. etc.)
4. Slowly (using a funnel) pour about 1/2 of the bottle into the hole.
5. you may see some nice pyro coming from it, dont worry this is only your wastegate reading the new boost.
6. turn on your car
7. pour the other 1/2 of the bottle in
and finally...

run inside, pick up your mom's spatula and slap the livin sh!t outta yourself! :) (no flames)

g'luck....

Actually guys, some turbos used to use an alcohol mix to reduce detonation. Very popular during WWII. Many of the fighters like the P-38 Lightning used nitrous with alcohol injection as well as a supercharger that shut down when the turbos built boost. If you ever go to an airshow where that confederate air force plane is flying, listen to it when it idles up to the ramp. sounds like a damned dragster. Bill Miller used to offer an alcohol injector setup for the old mustang 4 cyl turbos. But the guy was still taken for a ride... New muffler bearings anyone?

Hey guys, be nice and pat him on the back! We shouldn't make noobs feel bad, it makes us seem like those elitist ferrari guys (i used to have a 308 gtsi, and know how THEY make ya feel). Seriously, the guy came here knowing zilch about turbos and DSM savvy. Aren't we supposed to encourage guys like him, to save another DSM from the crusher? Hats off to all the guys that helped him out..and lucky him the broken studs came out, easy or not, without pulling the head. If he had that last one next to the power steering pump break off inside the head and he managed to fish it out, he can come over and finesse mine out!

Really guys, poking fun at him turns him off to this forum. We were ALL noobs once. Just trying to learn about the cars is tough enough, and finding this forum is even harder. To get slammed for an honest effort to learn>? Shame on those folks with the bad manners. We all had to learn, though i admit that the boost fluid was a new one till i hit the history books. Remember, there was a time when nitrous was used solely to eliminate turbo lag by increasing exhaust flow at low rpm..., and alcohol injection was used to cool the incoming charge before they were using intercoolers..
Hats off to the guy, who, in spite of the flames, took the good advice out of all the static and got his car running again..

who is actually reading far enough back to find this thread and bring it back? I guess someone learned how to use the search.
