My wife has a 1995 Eclipse RS.
She loves this car but the engine needs to be rebuilt having over 200 K miles.
Not being a Mitsu person I know very little about these cars. Like what type of engine this car actually has. I was told it was a dodge neon engine ?
So the question here is if I were looking for an engine to do a replacement with, what should I be looking for and where at?

Its the same block as that gen's Neon, yes, but there are differences. Its a 2.0L DOHC engine designated 420a. Best bet would be to go to a junkyard and find a 420a out of a wrecked Eclipse. Or just junk the whole car, since it has so many miles on it. You need to weigh your options carefully on this one.

r u lookin to do just a one for one swap or an upgrade?
Just a replacement hopefully.
Swaps are too hard on that car to a turbo swap.

It's a dodge neon BLOCK
420A (engine code)
Multiple junkyards + our classifides are always parting out something.
Check out 2gnt.com for some other people possibly selling them.

Also, DOHC Neons have the intake in the front and the exhaust in the rear. You cant just swap them straight across, as far as I know.

Whew, I thought for a second I was wrong, and you were going to tell me "STFU noob!" :shhh:

Thanks for the replies.
And I am trying to wiegh options here. Just wasnt getting any results looking for 1995 eclipse motor. So my next question is if a 94 2 L DOHC Eclipse motor work? If not is the 420A the ONLY option for an easy fix?

Im not sure of your question here. Are you asking if a 94 motor will fit in a 95? The answer to that is no. All Eclipse' from 95-99 used the same 420a engine, but the 94 and back is a different engine (4g63).

that was part of the question yes.
I was told the 95 was the only one to have the Neon engine. Least I can now broden the search criteria for 95-99. Thanks

Everytime somebody calls our motor a Neon engine, God kills a kitten. Think of the kittens man, think of the kittens!!
