When do you reach full boost?

Let me try and sum it up for all of you that are having 16g spool up after 3.5k problem.

1. Boost leak.

2. Actuator/wastegate related.
A. Actuator arm off, too long, causing the wastegate not to close completely.
B. Defective actuator, being blown open by the exhaust flow.

3. Any kind of exhaust leak before the o2 housing which includes cracking on both the exhaust manifold and turbine housing.

4. A dying turbo, check it for shaft play and make sure it spins FREELY.

Goo luck guys and gals.

1995 AWD
8.2:1 4g64.
Stock head/cams
2.5"dp
3"cb
Evo3 02
Internally gated bullseye housing w Hx40
mitsu 16g actuator
crappy mbc

15psi by about 4100 in 3rd. Hard to tell exactly since it happens pretty fast. 12psi by 3200 in 5th.

Yeah, I'm still confused. I checked the actuator and flapper arm and they both work fine. I thought that the lower heat shield was blocking the wastegate arm since its a rotated 14b so it bolts strictly onto a 2g. I took it off but I still don't get full boost until 4500-5000 in 2nd. I also checked for any exhaust housing leaks, and there weren't any.

I wonder if I just went and got a 16g if my spool up time would shorten drastically.

How did you rotate it? Im pretty sure the compressor cover and chra are both keyed.

I cant believe some of the slow spool times some of you 16g/14b guys have. I have a evoIII 16g and i see 20psi by 3000rpms; luck maybe? I also have a boost leak where my UICP meets the throttle body. Just can't seem to seal the bastard.

I personally didn't do it. Ming from TRE did it. There is another post on the turbo section of the forums about it and it basically looks like the rotated turbo in the pic on there, but with a straight actuator arm, not bent all crazy like that one.

Full spool at 2600 on an EVO III 16g

Mike's actuator arm isn't hitting anything, the only thing I can think of is the flapper door is maybe missing or isn't shutting all the way. Let me know when you take off the o2 housing to check.

Full boost at 2600prms.... im so jealous. I feel like I have a T67 without the power.

Somethings wrong with the seat where the flapper closes on. Pull the turbine housing, remove your o2 housing and double check. You'll be able to see where the exhaust gases are sneaking by the flapper.
I've also seen the flapper installed too lose and bind on the vary bottom next to arm. Try swapping your wategate actuator with a different one.

i gotta 14 b and am not reaching 10 psi till about 3300 then it creeps to 20+ when i get to 5000 or so. i need massive porting done but im broke :notgood: ... still beating on mustang gt's and srt4's tho :thumb:

I have my stock 14b with a brand new 16g turbine housing and waste gate.

I just got the car back and i'm breaking in the clutch so I can't really get on it, But I tapped the gas and hit 10psi @ 2,700rpms and in 5th gear I can hit 10psi at 2,800rpms. I'm not useto it, I'm useto just starting to get going at alittle over 4000rpms from my previous carROFL :tease:

My 14b doesn't hit full boost in 2nd til 3800 RPM. How would I go about checking to see if my wastegate is functioning properly or not?

i have a td05 and i can run 20 psi, but i have it set right now at 12 psi. all hard piping stock side mount. turbo xs mbc but i dont think i have any leaks or anything and my car doesnt seem as fast as it should be like my buddies 2.2 eco tech cavy kept up with me the other day when we were racing and a vtech honda was right on my ass when i was racing him? wtf? please help me out asap, shoudl i port the exhaust manifold and shit?

Well how many miles does your turbo have on it? The turbine housing could be shot. Mine had 190,000 on it and the housing had cracks up the wazoo and didn't seal around the wastegate.

I don't hit full boost (14psi) till about 3500 on my 14b. It used to hit it earlier before I did: 2g ex mani ported, new ex mani gasket, new studs and nuts, ported ex housing, ported comp housing, 2.5" tubular O2 housing, and new turbo gaskets. I did notice a small leak between ex housing and O2 housing when I Seafoamed.
I know that the stock SMIC and exhaust are my bottlenecks right now. Is stock exhaust my problem? I might pull the heatshield off and double check for leaks and do a booost leak test....its been about 2k since I put it all together. I had no boost leaks when I got done putting it back together, but haven't checked it since

I'd also double check that there are no leaks between the head and manifold. Double check that all the nuts are tight because a loose one can affect your spool.

Hey guys I'm having a similar problem with my car I had the 13g on mine, Then I replaced it with a 14b and i dont hit full spool in 2nd until around 4500, Do you guys think the 13g mani and 02 housing is holding me back that much? or is this something worse?

14B 7 CM Housing set at 15 psi = 2900 RPM

I also have a massive FMIC (26x12x3) side to side with 2.5 inch piping. So it is not the short route kind. I also have a 3 inch turbo-back exhaust so that should help a bit.
