So it really is greed;). ALL these guys buy these big turbos because they ALL will eventually try to push for the bigger goal. Are they possibly just spending money to dream?

Seems to me most don't push the smaller stuff before going bigger. Just sounds cool to say you have a this or that turbo.

these are the numbers on stock block , stock head at low boost aroun 14-20psi only.
When cash come in handy , they will opt for stronger internals and further push the turbo to its limits

That just adds to the greediness, a 50-trim(or equivalent) should make those same numbers. A 35r is not nowhere efficient at those boost levels, you can just get a smaller turbo and run the same boost(where its efficient), and then turn around spool up quicker and make more power.:ohdamn:

Exactly. While I have also seen higher numbers from stock internals, the fact that they get the turbo first and the supporting mods second implies that it's all about bragging rights of running XX turbo, not actually being fast.

I installed my T3 FP HTA86 in my 1G DSM couple months ago and run it, not yet tuned.
Here is the start up vids :hellyeah: :
YouTube - 1G DSM with FP HTA GT3586R turbo.

However I may soon move this turbo to my Supra (my Daily Driven car) with T4 setup (all needed parts ordered and on the way) and put bigger turbo like BW S366ET in the Eclipse :sneaky: . The DSM is the weekend warrior car :sneaky:.

Fully supported HX35 is all I would want on my Automatic. Nice daily driver, with enough power to rape some people *ahem* at the track ~.^ if they got a little too cocky.

Dream turbo? One that meets the airflow requirements to generate the horsepower I desire, while remaining as quick-spooling, inexpensive to maintain, and reliable as possible. Right now that appears to be a Holset HX40.

I'm not picky toward brand or type, but whatever I run in the future will not be a journal-bearing Garrett.
The man said it right.

FP 18g-6SL2 for me. Should put me just over 400 awhp, with the ability to detune it to the 350 awhp while retaining an extremely low spool and a broad power band. This gives the flexibility to expirement with it for Rally....That is if I EVER get my car finished.

One of my dreams/goals is to pick up a 1G for the Canadian Rally Championship. I love rally racing. I've been watching WRC since 2006, haven't missed a race yet. Even went to Italy last year to watch the Rally of Sardinia.

Rally FTW. :thumb:

I think he got it :)

You'd be better off with an Evo III 16g than the 18g.
I have a TD05H 18g, and it has all the lag of a 20g and only the power output of a 16g...

My td05h 18g spooled as fast as my 16g. The hotside is the same and the compressor major diameter is the same :) . All an "18g" is, is a compressor wheel.

The 18g compressor could benefit from an 8cm^2 turbine housing, though; if the turbine housing didn't have such a sh!tty wastegate exit into the exhaust stream. The 18g compressor flows quite a bit more than the evo3 16g compressor. The 18g compressor map reads 4-5lb/min higher than the evo3 16g compressor map. And the td06sl2 18g is proving to flow quite a bit more. The FP site as a direct dyno comparison between a 16g hotside and the td06sl2 18g hotside. 10% more power at only 21psi. Not pushing either turbo to it's limit.

It's not good to look for 18g/20g power with a 16g turbine. You need to better match your hotside to your cold side. Td05h 20g turbos that do well have a bigger turbine housing, or a clipped turbine wheel. The 16g turbine is just barely enough for the evo3 16g compressor. So my suggestion in your case is to look at upgrading the turbine wheel. It will be about $300 total after machining. You'll essentially have the FP td06sl2 18g. But don't you have the better compressor cover, since it's a greddy 18g? Can't see in your enginbay shots clearly. Looks like you ahve the 17c compressor cover. Which would give you a slight advantage over the fp 18g.

Yep its the TD05H GReddy 18g.
It looks just like this with the 3" Inlet.
It's damn near as big as my buddies PTE 5031.
If it's any consolation, I had to dent my waterpipe to make it fit without using the POS spacer and two gaskets show right above the intake pipe.

So, where should I send this thing, and what do I tell them to do to it.
I would like to keep the internal gate set-up for smog inspections, so when it gets rebuilt, I want to get a hotside set-up for an external gate.

Can they machine my existing hotside so I can swap it on for smog purposes?
Take it to PM's from here, I'm very interested :sneaky:...
