Ok guys I searched but nothing seemed to go along with my problem. When the car idles I can hear a faint tap coming from under the valve cover. Now on a free rev there is no audible tap, but when riding in 1-2 gear if givin more than half throttle it taps like a mofo. what could this be? I do not think it's rod knock because it is coming from the middle-upper portion of the valve cover.

has the head been off before ,if so check the plate that is attached to the back of it to see if all 3 bolts are in it ,2 on top 1 half way down the back of the block

I also agree with lifter tick also check the oil baffle on the valve cover didnt come lose. Mine did once and I had to get a new valve cover.

I don't think lifter tick is very audible in gear. I thought it was only audible at idle or free revving.

Hm, I believe your right on that but I want to say back when I had the other GSX, the one that got totaled, that every once in a while in 1st at very low speeds I could here it some. For some reason the GSX I have now doesn't have any lifter tick at all. Not that I'm complaining.

ALMOST POSITIVE ITS A LIFTER.. YOU PRETTY MUCH HEAR IT IN IDLE AND IN GEAR WHEN ## CAR HASNT BEEN RUNNING LONG(TAKES A FEW FOR THE OIL TO MAKE ITS WAY TO THE TOP OF THE MOTOR).. BUT ALSO LIFTERS CAN STICK SO ITLL BE HITTIN SOMETIMES AND NORMAL OTHER TIMES.. NOT A GENIUS BUT I KNOW CARS ENOUGH TO SAY THATS A SAFE BET :dsm:

ARE YOU POSITIVE?

So lifter tick sounds like something is trying to get out from under your vc. Because thats what mine sounds like. It does not matter how long I let the car warm up, it still happens. When the car idles whatever is making this sound almost has a whirling sound at first but then when throttle is applied it turns to a tap.
