Well... Here's my first funky sound post. It comes after my alternator belt tore. Everything runs properly and I have no loss in power but this nasty sound is coming from around all the pulleys.

Made a video before I dropped it back on the floor. Any help is appreciated. =]

Why did the alternator belt tear ? 1 of the pulleys caused it to fail ??

Sounds like the bearing in the alternator is shot. Grab a stethoscope and place it along the alternator. You can buy auto stethoscopes from any parts store.

My thought was that it was old but I'm not so sure. I'll get a stethoscope and take a listen. Thanks! Here's a photo of the belt that tore.

I'm going to grab a friend who's been a mechanic his whole life. Tell you what though... You don't need to loosen any other bolts than the ones around the alternator to change that belt...

I'm guessing a piece of the belt is still stuck somewhere in there and is hitting things when the car is on. Other than that, it can be something loose. I would take all the alt, power steering and AC belt off, take off the crank pulley and look at things closely and then start asking questions from there. Hope this helps.

Oh and btw I'm about 30-45 mins away from you. Always welcome to come by and ill take a look at it.

Dude! Thanks! I need to meet someone who understands these things a bit more than I do. I'll message you. =]
