It is basicly simple.

Sounds like you are asking about duration....

Duration is how long the valve is open.

Now there are 2 diffrent duration specs

Advatised The company that ginds the cams will give this, some use .002 lift others may use .006 or .010, on a say 272 duration cam, the company my start with the valve moving .004 lift to .004 before closing

then you have @.050.. this is an industry standard so you can compair all cams by this spec.
